I have 3 peacock Gudgeons in my community tank. They are now my new favorite fish! They absolutely love hanging out under Anubias leaves and eating frozen bloodworms and brine shrimp.

Salutare Romaniei! Deși modelul de culoare este similar cu mai multe specii de killifish, acestea nu sunt strâns legate. Sunt pești gudgeon, strâns înrudiți cu gobii. Numele lor științific este Tateurndina ocellicauda. Sper că te ajută!

I love these little buggers. I was thinking of putting 3-4 in a 10 gallon along with some CPO's and amano shrimp. What do you think?

I don't know what a CPO is, but if you meant a CPD, then I think that combination would work well. Just keep in mind the peacocks will stay towards the bottom. Depending on how a tank is set up, CPD's sometimes hang on the bottom. If that is the case, it may be worth looking for a more surface oriented fish so the bottom does not get too crowded.

I was literally just watching your video where you got the empire gudgeons...which I think are on my list as well. lol The CPO's are dwarf Meixcan orange crayfish. They're peaceful little mudbugs but I'm not sure how they would or would not jive with the peacock gudgeons. Those empire gudgeons you got in that video were gorgeous!

It depends. There are many, many kinds of gobies, gudgeons, and dwarf cichlids...literally thousands. Some go together just fine, others don't. Peacock Gudgeons would be fine with several different dwarf cichlids, but not all of them. However, they occupy similar niches, so you would need to be sure you have plenty of caves, cover, and other appropriate territory so everyone has access to the niches they need.

Love the channel and the store. Got a tank of the same killifish, Platys, and paleatus corys. Would one of these, or even the emperor gudgeon, be a nice lower level "centerpiece"?

Which species of killifish do you have? If they are larger, more robust killies, then I think either Peacocks or Empire Gudgeons would be fine. If they are one of the smaller, less physically strong species, then perhaps the Peacocks are the best choice.

Jalen, Probably, but every betta is different. Some are peaceful and could not care less about another fish in the tank. Every now and then, though, you will find a betta that won't let another fish live with it.

I have one named sand plum, and I love him so much!! he brings me food, and does the little tail fwip flip thing, comes to stare at me longingly I’m afraid! and slowly swims over to his house, staring at me the whole time. I CANT BE HIS WIFE!!! Idk maybe I talk to him too much. Or maybe him now dealing with the loss of his wife sweet pea this July 😔🤚had been hard on him! I have another one on hold at two different fish stores but they can’t get them in! he hasn’t had anyone for months! I feel so bad do you think if I let him watch this it would be bad for him? He was really interested and didn’t seem scared. I just don’t want to overwhelm him with technology he can’t understand. I can just imagine he thinks I keep all his family in my pocket and am taking them away at will! I don’t know if I’m ready to subject an animal to existential crisis yet. 😂let me know

In regards to pH what do you keep yours in? I'm planning in getting three for my 10 gallon and the tank would be about a 6.8

Colorado, I haven't worried about pH in years, but, due to your question, I just tested it. One kit read 6.2, which seemed low, so I tested with a second kit, which read 7.6. So, I really have no idea but when I used to measure it regularly it was around 7.0. This species (peacock gudgeon) can be kept successfully in hard or soft water (more important a parameter IME than pH) as long as the water is kept clean and the tank is well established.

I'm thinking of doing a 10 gallon. I would have a breeding trio of the gudgeons. Would clown killifish a good tank mate? If so, how many? And also what cleaner would go well? I was thinking albino bristlenose or retic. hillstream.

Sure. I think clown killies would be great. Say, 6 or so should be no problem in a 10. As for cleaners, I'd go with something smaller like an Oto in a 10.

Yes, Hannah, you are correct about the egg shells. I have very soft water and I had shrimp in that tank. My hope was that the egg shells would provide a source of calcium for the shrimp.

No, I don't think they did much good. Didn't do any harm either, but crushed coral in a box filter seems better and less messy.

My shrimp seem to like cuttlebone for extra calcium, it’s easy for them to pick at and fairly common. It’s usually intended for birds but you can break it into chunks to use for smaller organisms. The only difficulty is getting it to sink- it has a lot of trapped air- but it does sink eventually.

I think so, as long as there are lots of decorations that block line of sight and lots of caves for everyone. Otherwise, they will get a bit too territorial in that small of a space.

Yes. They are great companions with angelfish as adults. Juveniles might be snacks, but full grown gudgeons will be just fine.

Hey dude!!! Im having a issue with my pea goby. Ive been watching her for a few days and shes flashing on things, and somtimes sits on the bottom of the tank. I got her like 5 days ago and theres no sighns of ich on her or anything that sugests she has internal parasites... other than the flashing... her fins are never clamped shes not skinny or lathargic and still eats. Im thinking shes stressed but this is my first time with them so any opiniuns?

Hello Michigan Aquatic's, Sorry to hear your worries about peacock gudgeon. It could be many things and, without the proper tests, it is, unfortunately, impossible to know what is going on for sure. If this was happening to my fish and I did not observe any external parasites, I would wait a couple of days to see if things calmed down. If they did not, I would treat with Ich X.

@@DansFish They have calmed down a bit after a couple of days. He will look for food and swim around rather than flare up and nip the apisto. When they do cross paths he will flare up and the apisto would eventually swim away before anything happens and my peacock won't chase after him anymore. I added more rock covers and overnight I move my peacock to another tank. Interestingly, my peacock seems to be aggressive occasionally to other fish only after I added the apisto whereas before he seemed to be fine. Of course the apisto gets aggressive when it comes to food and areas of the tank but with the peacock around he's not like that at all lol

Sometimes, fish which inhabit similar niches can get grumpy just because they are in each other's space so much. I be the extra rocks will help.

I find these to be among the least hardy fish. Maybe its my water. They'd be OK for a few weeks then get sluggish and die. No sign of disease or parasites. They're beautiful fish, but aren't exactly easy to keep IMHO

I bought one and he/she became very aggressive. Killed one of my rummynoses and just came home to a dead guppy. Into the goldfish tank he went. He seems alright in there but now that i have a tank full of fin nipped fish and now 2 dead fish I absolutely hate this bastard. My tank is full of extremely peaceful fish.

Pronunciation 1. Gudgeon 10 out of 10; 2. Papua 5/10....'Pa-pu-a', 3 syllables rather than 2. We are more familiar with PNG being our closest neighbour. Which explains why very closely related gudgeons occur here in Australia too. Cheers
