00:16 little spider sleeping bags! :D 00:47 She looks at the ant as it's leaving like, "watch where you're going!" 6:48 I didn't know spider abdomens could turn that far. :O You have a remarkable way of making the music match the movements of the spider. During the second dance with the female, the spider's legs moved in almost perfect sync with the music. Also, I thought the rag-timey blues playing during the "dance-off" served as an excellent juxtaposition to what was, to the spiders, a very serious confrontation. Loved this video, and all your others! Keep up the good work! :D

The funny thing about this video is when he is talking about the spiders the cows in the background look like they are listening to every word being said. Especially the calf, it looks like he is waiting for his close up. LOL I love watching the spider coming out of his camouflaged nest. The camera work is amazing. You don't realize how small these guys really are until you see that ant going by the female. They really are tiny! I also love two males gearing up for their tussle. The musicis perfect.

This is one of my favourite hoppy videos! How jumping spiders sleep is very interesting. Some seem to take naps during the day. They curl up with the legs close to the body to make themselves look smaller for safety. It's also intersting to see how they react to other critters, like when they watch a tiny mite or something walk by. And Jürgen's videos are superb! It's so interesting to see different hoppy species from the same family and how their patterns, "cultures" and dances and fights differ! And peacock spiders ensure that the study and science is FUN and SILLY and not just boring observations! oOOo!

Great video. I like that the males do a dance off and tussle-throwdown to see who is the better lover. LOL. I also noticed in the various videos you have posted that when the female decides he is worthy, most of the time she turns sideways, showing acceptance. I loved the bit where the female pretty much said "Enough already!" when she stamped her front legs on the branch, making the male back off.

The leg-like structures you mentioned are called pedipalps. Yes, this particular species produce littlr "sleeping bags". I am glad you like this movie. I think it is also my favorite, despite not having as many views as the other ones.

To me, these guys' abdomens look quite a lot like the head and eyes of a much larger insect. Do they appear so in person? They seem so gentle in their encounter. Even the males in competition don't seem all that hostile...almost good natured. They are all so delightful to watch, I'm not getting much done around my home. Since childhood, I've loved the hopping spiders here in the U.S. Some have become quite friendly and allowed me to carefully handle them and seem to recognize me at other encounters. I guess you could Call me an enthusiast!

The patterns on their abdomens is certainly intriguing and one has to wonder how the females sees them. Yes, they are good natured. I have watched these tournaments or contests between males for hours and never have seen a male being injured.

I managed to stop and freeze the video at the 5:07 spot, the female actually never touched the male when she jumped at him. The noise was just from the jump, I have heard little click noises before when jumping spiders jump. The microphone on your camcorder picked it up really good. The jump noise you're hearing is actually from the male spider jumping. This is a great video, I have always wanted to see how the males contested each other in the peacock jumping spider species.

Thank you for your dedication to these jewels of the arachnid world! How I wish you could've slowed down the tussling between the two males! They're so quick that it was all a blur... I know we humans have a tendency to anthropomorphize, but I really felt as though the body language that the males displayed between each other was quite different than the displays a male shows for the female. The males gestures toward each other were much more threatening and aggressive than the behavior a male shows toward a female. It's amazing how music can enhance the watching of a video. The romance part was very sweet and tastefully done. The mail was very slow and took his time in cording the female and was very gentle in covering her. Thank you so much for all you do, and I look forward to writing you an email soon. I want to hold off in writing to you until I have watched all your videos, so it may take me a day or two...May God richly bless you for the labors that you do for the edification of all humanity. I really hope that the spiders will become ambassadors to humanity, and that the spiders will help lessen people's arachnophobia. All these peacock spiders are just so darn cute! I love their fuzzy forepaws! And the iridescent green machine in their eyes is lovely also! I did notice that they seem to have a spinneret at the end of their butts. Since they're jumpers, they don't make webs, correct? Does having a line of thread come out as they jump help them stabilize and aim for a precise location during jumping? I am in concert in amazement at every video I see, because I realize how small they are, and how agile they are. I did like the part in the beginning of the video where you had the spider closest to the camera and focus and then you blurted out because there was a spider just a few centimeters behind that one that you had to focus in on... it must take amazing patients to film these agile arachnids, and since you were out in the world are Ness, it must be hard to remain still while sweating and being bombarded and bothered by other insects! I truly appreciate all these videos that you have produced, and I am eagerly looking forward to watching every single one of them. I'm also looking forward to emailing you once I've watch them all, because I know that I'll have even more questions to ask than I have in this particular comment...
