Inspired by recent Saxon Warrior finds, we embark on an exciting magnet fishing adventure along the river and search for treasures that might have been lost to time. The allure of unearthing similar relics and learning more about the past drives us to scan the riverbanks and depths.
From ancient tools to potential artifacts, each item we retrieve adds a piece to the historical puzzle. Will we uncover relics from the era of Anglo-Saxon warriors? Watch to find out!

The hammer looks like a stepping hammer. Used to drive spikes into wood and then bend the end over to make a large staple shape to dog 2 pieces of wood together

@@mariecollinspeakydippers Hi Marie, I hope you are doing well, I enjoy watching you all and all your finds. It’s good that all that junk is getting out of the water. It’s a shame people don’t care and think nothing of throwing things in the water that dirties the water and makes it not healthy. You are helping to clean it up, that’s commendable. I enjoy watching you all and you do find some really good finds, that is great for you all. Take care dear, and all ❤️

That "hammer" is a real corker! I can tell you that it was cast metal based on the seam, and the fact it has an oddly shaped iron handle means it was likely not a hammer, but possibly part of some larger piece of equipment . I think the "handle" likely being welded on later. The end of it being showing it was used against metal though, from the spalling on it. I am unable to tell if the handle was welded onto the "head" or was cast as part of it. (Holding it against a grinding wheel and checking the sparks of steel vs cast iron would tell a lot as to it's true composition). I don't believe it was a blacksmithing hammer, at least I have never seen one in the many decades I was smithing..The handle shape is way too uncomfortable to hold to be a hammer. Maybe more like an actuating lever. (Someone COULD have used it as a hammer at some time though). I would hope the antiquities blokes could date the metal in it or possibly know what it was used for. I shall eagerly await learning it's true purpose. I have an extensive library on blacksmithing and I have never see that pattern before. Please look it over closely for a makers mark. That might provide a clue to the smith who made it. After contemplating it, I believe it was part of another piece of machinery. The hole on the one side makes it look like it fitted over a piece of rectangular bar. Also a give away is the handle hope appears to have never gone completely through the piece, If it was a hammer provision would have been made to replace the handle. Please take a close look at the "handle" and see if it appears to be welded on, possibly later. I am unable to clearly see the area the "handle" is attached at to tell much. If it was a "hammer" the metal "handle" would have stung a hand like blazes when it struck metal. Also, please look carefully at the notch and see if it was added later on. Crude filing marks, etc. or if it appears to have been cast in when made. 8:23- That style double hook was used to shorten a chain. I have used them before.

The unusual hammer has a small "vee" groove which could definitely have been used to pry out nails with heads. I have an enormous hand tool collection and have never seen an example like the one found. I am going to guess it may have had something to do with patternmaking but I am not certain. Whatever it is - keep it because it is a rare bird ! Best wishes from Montana !

Could that hammer be from an old horse shoe forger who made the horse shoes on site and pulled the old ones off and put the new ones on??? The hole could be to help bend and shape the hot shoes.

I'm not Marie, but I wanted to give you a magnet site... Don't know if you watch any other magnet fishers on KZbin but I love Bondi Treasure Hunter... He has made his own brand of magnets that are gold colored and come in a variety of sizes... I'm not sure about his prices as I haven't ever bought a magnet before, I'm disabled and not able to go fishing though I would love to... I believe there are links to his shop on his KZbin channel!!
