The way that Dave uses the cymbols in his drumming is extreemely creative. He truly played each song with melody on the drums. If that's even possible!? Getting rid of him was the greatest mistake this band ever made musically.

Damn straight, I lost interest in PJ after he was cut. I didn't know why I lost interest at time but looking back I think it was because Dave really brought another dimension to the band, his drumming was a big part of Vs. and when he played the songs on Ten that Krussen did.

David said it best in that Maybe Pearl Jam didn't want a powerful kick ass drummer like him after he was dismissed because if you look at all the drummers that came after David none of them sounded or played like him. None of them drove the band like him!! Everybody had to be on their "A" game when David took the stage with P.J!! Now Eddie can just sit back and dance back-and-forth and not have to worry about the drummer kicking him in the ass musically!!

Dave Abruzzese 😎🥁👏 You were such a pivotal part to the foundations of Pearl Jam. Personally, as a young drummer, you were a huge influence on my playing & feel. Blessed to have grown up with so many great & diverse alternative bands & drummers with their own signature sounds. "DA was the best drummer of Pearl Jam" I know that really goes without saying: The majority of fans, drummers & even non-drummers from the "VS" & "Vitalogy" era would testify, nearly 30 years later, the musical chemistry was undeniable. The way you locked in with Jeff's groove but the ability also fed off Stone's rhythmic riffs & playing & but also the ability to respond melodically to Ed's vocals & Mike's leads. It really is about listening, feeling & being able to respond, to the subtle changes & dynamics in music. While I can only the imagine the pressure & stress on a young band, collectively & personally as individuals, at the same time rising to be one of the biggest bands in the world. I was sad when I heard you had both parted ways. Even though it probably sounds unrealistic... my hope is that one day, even for you personally, there would be a reconciliation of sorts between you all... A change to bury the hatchet, make amends for things said & be able to acknowledge that amazing period in the bands history & what you all accomplished together. I hope you know that your contribution hasn't gone unnoticed by music fans alike 🙏 Take care & keep rocking Dave A 😎✌️

Drummers are typically underrated in any band. The entire band typically wants to tell the drummer what to play rather then letting the drummer be their own creative force. Drummers are highly under appreciated. Pearl Jam definitely f'd up when they let Dave go. Don't get me wrong! Matt is a killer drummer. He was the shizz in Soundgarden but not quite the same level of energy in PJ.
@Evocati-Augusti
@Evocati-Augusti 2 жыл бұрын
He wrote full songs on this album. WIKI: "Go" was one of the songs the band produced during the first week of recording for Vs.[1] The main guitar riff for "Go" was written by drummer Dave Abbruzzese. He initially wrote the music for the song using an acoustic guitar. Abbruzzese said, "With "Go", I just happened to pick up the guitar at the right moment. Stone asked what I was playing and started playing it, then Jeff started playing it, and Eddie started singing with it, and it turned into a song."Guitarist Stone Gossard added the siren-like guitar part. Gossard on the song: That song went through a cool evolution that goes back to what we've been saying about creative input. Dave played us the two main parts, that BAM-BAM-BAM groovy chordal riff bit and then the main ascending riff in more of an acoustic vein. Then, when he got behind the drums, everyone turned up real loud and it evolved into something else, a little more hardcore. Guitarist Mike McCready played a yellow Telecaster on the song. McCready threw the guitar on the ground at the end of the take, which can be heard on the recorded version.

Because I learned songs you changed up and added things that made them better then the recordings on TEN , the way you fill gaps in the music that aren't there to normal drummers, with splash and chinas , I've up my game by double, he was so good Abbruzzese made his studio debut with Pearl Jam when the band released the single "Even Flow" in April 1992.They re-recorded the song for its single release with Abbruzzese on drums instead of original drummer

Have written this comment everytime I watch / listen to Dave A drumming for Pj. I M O Pearl Jam are the Rolls Royce of music , absolutely love them , Dave A was the engine to that machine , never ran as good as it did after Dave left / fired . Dave A delivered the earlier Pearl Jam aggression to the songs , the songs off Ten , V's and Vitalogy were primarily aggressive songs and Dave totally defined that sound , especially live and keep them to the beat intended, Jack Irons was a complete different beast style wise , great drummer and kept the recorded beat in a live setting also , something Matt Cameron continues to not do , plays way to fast live and drops the ball on the aggressive style Pearl Jam music requires , even Pj slow early songs Release,Black , Daughter etc Dave A gave those songs the emotional drive to a maximum with his style and timing.Brilliant drummer indeed . What is , is what is but holy crap , what could have been.

@PearlVedder When Abbruzzese played for Pearl Jam, not only was the band powerful, but it was also funky. Even Dave Krusen and Jack Irons had that, and so did drummers like Sean Kinney, Mike Bordin and Eric Kretz. Matt Cameron doesn't have a funky bone in his body. So now Pearl Jam is this plodding, very ordinary rock band. If something like "Spoonman" were played by Abbruzzese, it would have been 10 times funkier.

What I love about those 92-93 shows is the groove in your songs with your hi-hat / snare combo in the verses. Or how you intensify the verse with your hi-hat in tunes like Even Flow. However this is how it's supposed to sound like when you play it right, especially at 2:20 with your use of cymbals, or at 3:16 when Edward begins to see things. You were the Jam in Pearl Jam. Dave Abbruzzese's drumming was so energetic and impassioned in all the concerts he's played with them. He's brought something new to the band as a drummer that for me is exceptional. You can hear it, you can feel it. It's a shame, because he's the drummer they needed. I feel that way. I'd like to know what he thinks of the way Pearl Jam's music has evolved.

Dave helped build PJ, from scratch, 2 albums plus most of the Ten touring era. believe it or not, they way you see Dave's drumsticks swing has a different flow, more dynamic, that's from the visual point of view lastly, personally, the era i love and miss the most is the 1st 5 years, looonging they call it!

No one will ever be able to answer the question: if Dave Abbruzzese had remained in Pearl Jam, would the PJ make big records like Ten, Vs and Vitalogy? We'll never know. Perhaps those records were born thanks to the youth of the members of the time. Or maybe those records were magical because they represent a good period (the early 90's). Or maybe those records were beautiful because there was Dave Abbruzzese! PS: abruzzese, with only one "b", is the one who lives in the central-southern Italian region called Abruzzo.

PJ was heading in a different direction, so my guess is that they wouldn't have still be making music like the first 3 CDs. That's just 1 reason why they fired DA.

@@pinkfreud62 the real reason- I shit you not- is that Eddie couldn't stand being in a band with a Republican. As we all know, what Eddie says goes

@Tigerpuffer Great post mate.. I loved Dave and Jack.. Matt is too polished for Pearl Jam and has turned them into a normal rock band.. Reason I loved PJ from the start cos there sound was so raw and Jack brought some fantastic rhythm to the band..

Pearl Jam are fools for asking Dave to leave the band...Matt Cameron is a kick ass drummer for Soundgarden but, not right for Pearl Jam.

No disrespect to Matt or Dave or anyone in PJ but with Matt maybe on a "summer holiday" tour with Soundgarden, wouldn't it be great if the band went out and played a couple of shows (say for some benefit - I'm sure there's a good cause out there that could use some extra support) and they brought in Dave to sit in for those shows. It wouldn't have t be anything serious, just a jamming with old friends and sharing good music with the fans.
