Eddie is a survivor and that's why over 3 decades later pearl jam is still going strong. I was 29 when my girlfriend introduced me to PJ debut album ten and I've been absolutely hooked to this band since, I mean daily on my 39 mile commute to work they have been keeping me company past 32 years. I'm about to retire as I'm now 61 but even as I how out from my career one thing that will not be bowing out is my absolute love for this band. That girlfriend is my wife over 3 decades now 5 daughter's and a lifetime of Pearl jam's music. Not a bad life ☺️👍

Hear the sirens, hear the sirens Hear the sirens, hear the circus so profound I hear the sirens more and more in this here town Let me catch my breath to breathe then reach across the bend Just to know we’re safe, I am a grateful man This light is pit, alive and I can see you clear I could take your hand, and feel your breath For feel that someday this will be over I pull you close, so much to lose Knowing that, nothing lasts forever I didn’t care, before you were here A distant laughter, with the ever after But, all things change, let this remain Hear the sirens covering distance in the night The sound, echoing closer, will they come for me, next time? For every choice, mistake I made, is not my plan To send you in the arms of another man And if you choose to stay, I’ll wait, I’ll understand It’s a fragile thing, this life we lead, If I think too much, I can’t get over When by the grace, by which we live Our lives with death over our shoulders Want you to know, that should I go, I always loved you, held you high above too I studied your face, the fear goes away It’s a fragile thing, this life we lead, If I think too much, I can’t get over When by the grace, by which we live Our lives with death over our shoulders Want you to know, that should I go, I always loved you, held you high above too I studied your face, the fear goes away, The fear goes away, the fear goes away

The talent and ability this man exudes is phenomenal. Pearl Jam immediately took over as my number one favorite band , from the first time I heard Alive. They keep getting better as time goes on. I guess we all hear the lyrics differently, I have read some of the other posters put down the words they hear, I would like to humbly contribute what I hear when I listen to this song: "Hear the sirens, Hear the sirens, Hear the sirens, hear the circus so profound..... I, hear the sirens, more and more in this here town.... Let me catch my breath, to breathe and reach across the bed, Just to know we're safe, I am a grateful man... The slightest bit of light and I can see you clear..... Have to take your hand and feel your breath, for fear this someday will be over.... I hold you close, so much to lose, knowing that nothing lasts forever..... I didn't care, before you were here, I danced in laughter, with the ever after... But all things change, let this remain.... Hear the sirens, covering distance in the night.... The sound, echoing closer, will they come for me next time.... Oh, every choice, mistake i've made, it's not my plan... To send you in the arms of another man.... And if you choose to stay, i'll wait, i'll understand.... Oh, it's a fragile thing, this life we lead... If I think too much, I can get over- Whelmed by the grace, by which we live our lives with death over our shoulder... Want you to know, that should I go, I always loved you... Held you high above, true.. I studied your face, and the fear goes away... -Beautiful guitar solo- It's a fragile thing, this life we lead... If I think too much, I can get over- Whelmed by the grace, by which we live our lives with death over our shoulder... Want you to know, that should I go, I always loved you... This song has definitely grown on me since the first time I heard it. Their musical vision has grown so much since Ten and Vs. I was in college for those masterpieces and I can honestly say I appreciate this music almost as much.

Eddies voice is a powerhouse and this song is one of their best ballads but Matt’s harmonies just give this song such a good kick in the ass to make that chorus really feel electric and something special ❤️

I remember the first time I heard this song on the radio. My husband and I were pulling into the casino and I just had to turn it up. It hit me hard bc we were having issues and this song helped so much. Made me realize how much I needed him and didn’t want to lose what we built.

I was dying, on dialysis and chemo at age 30. I had a toddler & me & his father (Shane) had already been together for many years. I looked at both of their faces memorizing every part, trying to be brave for them. My son is now 18, I got a kidney transplant & God cured my cancer, but we lost Shane this past January. I was the sick one, why did we have to lose him? My heart remains broken until I see him again on the other side.

What a song! I know Eddie gets alot of the plaudits but this band are just awesome. So intense, so beautifully in sync with each other just feeding off each other to produce beautiful, moving memories. I love the end of the song. Silence, with each other looking around and thinking "How freaking good was that".
