The red stripe series was where Peavey Transtube amps peaked. The T Dynamics knob is super useful in shaping your tone and the amp's headroom, most people who hear it really think it's a tube amp. I will never part with my red stripe Studio Pro. Peavey really should reissue these.

@the_nondrive_side Ай бұрын
I thumbs up but disagree. The Silverstripe had the T-dynamic and Sheffield speaker the only reason the red stripes sounds better is EVERYBODY UPGRADES THE SPEAKER.. and it's lighter by a bunch. Left as Backline I think the Silverstripe is way better
@gilbertotoledo1421
@gilbertotoledo1421 Ай бұрын
@@the_nondrive_side I've never upgraded the speaker and it sounds fine for my particular tone, though I have thought of swapping the speaker eventually, but I always wind up thinking it sounds good as it is. I've never played the silver stripe, but any one of these would be great if Peavey reissued these. I wouldn't mind buying a silver stripe to pair my red stripe.

@@gilbertotoledo1421 I wouldn't say either is better but Shane has a hotrod redstripe. After many speaker comparisons. The Silverstripe comes with a proper speaker and the unit I got was a $20 opportunity I lugged home.. suffering the 80? Lbs

I have the same amp, I find the blue marvel stock speaker lacking. Dialing in the higher gain is difficult on the High input. I find it much better on the low input for clean and dirt.

These sound fabulous. My first proper amp was an original Bandit and I remember that was pretty awesome in 1981! Unfortunately, I never took it College and ended with an HH IC100, which, on reflection, was pretty awesome too. I owned the later Bandit 65 for a while too and later, a Classic 30. Peavey were always very reliable and great value.

I got mine for free. Borrowed it from a good friend for a gig when my Peavey Prowler broke down, and I ended up keeping it. It has the pointy logo but it’s made in USA. Usually, the US-made models have the block/delta logo. I’ve since replaced the stock Sheffield 1230 with an Eminence Tonespotter (which was in my Prowler). The Sheffield is a fine speaker, don’t get me wrong. It’s just a bit “pokey” for my liking. It’s a killer amp for what it is, especially with pedals. But on the drive channel, about 3 o clock on the vintage mode is about as high gain as I ever use. The high gain mode is just too saturated, even when using the low gain input and with the gain set low. It would probably be better through a closed back 4x12… high gain and open back 1x12s aren’t exactly a good pairing. I find the vintage mode can handle just about anything with a Tube Screamer or some other kind of boost in front of it.

This is a Made in China version so _only_ 20 years old. 😄 Like you, I've had several Bandits over the years. I have a US made red stripe now that I am keeping. The speaker in it is a Sheffield 1230. The Made in China version had the Blue Marvel speaker. I have two Texas Heat speakers in 1x12 cabs that I connect to every amp. The funny thing is, when I am testing other amps I look for ones that sound as good as my Bandit.

Putting the TH speakers in cabinets is a great idea. I bought a 4x12 cabinet just to get speakers to build into 1x12 cabinets. No one wants the 4x12 lug-around weight/space so they sell cheaper than used speakers.

Nice vid and playing man! I still have my red stripe bandit I bought brand new in 2000. Still works great. Have used it for everything from blues to metal. Always delivered and plenty of volume. I should really break my bandit out again and compare

I have one as well, but mine is made in USA. The Chinese ones seem to be more avaliable where you are. I don't think there is much difference between the two. As for sound, you do a great job showing what that sounds like. It is truly amazing. The sound of the speaker being pushed does make a difference, but it can produce good tones at bedroom level if you want. It is amazing how the dynamics work on this amp. It truly sounds and feels like a tube amp. Peavey nailed it with this one. I have had the newer cyclops and they don't come close to the red stripe. I still own a teal stripe as well, and it is good, but the red is much more versatile. Thanks for sharing and helping the price of our vintage gear to go up. . . HA!

I personally don’t care about where they are made, but there are some facts you might want to know about the date of your amp: the first red stripe Bandits were 2000 to 2004, were made in the US and were labelled, “Designed and Made in the USA” on the front, had Sheffield 1230 speakers, and most of them had, for a period of time, Peavey written as a block logo. From 2004-2005, the red stripe model was made in China, was labelled ”Designed in the USA” (rather than “Designed and Made”), had a speaker that was either unlabelled, or labelled Blue Marvel, and had the old pointy Peavey logo again. The indications on your amp make it undoubtably a China-made red stripe, either from 2004 or 2005.

@@mikewithers299 I did too Mike, a Hughes and Kettner Red box, but it was one more thing to set up, needed a battery, and just complicated things when doing fast set up or set down at gigs. The other thing was weight. We seem to get gigs where gear needs to be carried a long way. Yes there are trolleys, but it is all more gear in the back of the car. Best used preset with your guitar and in my case fuzz face and boost. I bought the Silverstripe because opportunity. But i was aware of opportunity because of Shane at In the Blues. You need to show the difference with these amps just having a tuner pedal plugged in before it does. That glass come from just having the buffer before the input. No idea why.. turn the T-dynamic down to min. And buffer the input and play with the volume pot

On mine I like using the real scooped high gain channel and turning up the mids real high. It really good that way. I get the most full sound out of the modern channel. My late 90’s US. made has the Peavey Sheffield 1230 speaker which is actually very good. There is no reason to go changing it especially because it would be hard to find a Vintage 30 type speaker that handles 80 watts.

It's interesting that you mention how it cleans up with you guitar volume, unlike some of the digital. The last Peavey I had was an Envoy 110. I don't remember which edition, I think it was 1995. I remember it having a really good sounding overdrive channel. The problem that kept me from playing it more was it's inability to clean up. When I turned the guitar volume down the amp volume would drop but the saturation stayed around the same. It's good if you have volume limits at home, but being someone that rides the volume and tone controls on the guitar, it just didn't work for me.

You can open them up and check the caps on the boards. Get them replaced if needed. One amp you never want to have to go over is a GK250 RL . It is the head version of the famous GK 250 ML. Those things are packed tight, but the sounds.... Love me the old Studio Pro 112, red stripe. Another little monster is the Peavey Bravo, tube, most often mistaken for a SS amp.

Great Vid Shane. I better get on marketplace and gumtree quick before the redstripes have another price rush! I have been weighing up simple solid state amps with effect loops for a band of 13-14 year olds. They use Katanas at school which I think sound great, but my search for a bargain on the second hand market was hovering around Peavey Bandits, Fender Mustangs, Katana's and (although new) Laney Lionheart Forge. Love your channel mate, I know your info comes from a thoroughly gigged perspective, which is invaluable info for an up and coming band. If you wanted to do a vid on what gear or tips a new band needs, for group rehearsal, what to expect at a venue, do's and don'ts, I would take all that info in a flash!

A speaker I’ve found works well is a Celestion Neo Creamback. Also the WGS ET65.

I have a minter too and have used it with the original Blue Marvel, Sheffield and Celestion Seventy 80 speakers. The BM isn’t bad at all but I am currently using the Celestion as it is a bit more articulate. I look forward to you installing the Texas Heat and may follow suit if I like what I hear🎸🤘🏻

Interesting. I thought the Bandits were all 80 Watts, whereas the Studio Pro 112 was 65 Watts. I have the Studio Pro 112 Red stripe. Great amp.

@raytorvalds3699 they evolved over the years. First gen was 50 watts, then 65, then 75 watts in the Solo series before the first of the "striped series". Each generation got more wattage and features to a point then after the TransTubes there were little tweaks. The Studio models were great amps and went thru their own changes in wattage and features like most of the Peavey lineup.

I think you have to test "Jensen N12/100 TR Tornado (classic) 12" speaker- 98.5dB - 100W - 8ohm. It is just perfect for Pandit !!! Both sound and weight is just perfect.

Funny how the ears developed. Late 80ies that was ok for a transistor - clean they always could do - but dirty no way. And I tried that amp then. Distortion sounded simply not good enough then - Sounds good now. Digital media changed all that. (Exception : HH Amps I liked even then - T-Rex, Bauhaus)
