Miss Laurie I am a person who started cooking at seven years old and fed eight people in the family after school. My Step mother did not like to cook, actually she was a terrible cook. So I took over and I am 74 years old today and still love to bake and cook thanks to my amazing Russian Grandmother. I love watching you cook and bake you remind me of myself same cooking style! ❤️❤️❤️

My mom taught me to make a variety of good quality foods for guests, cooked as you like it. It's just one meal, you aren't feeding them forever, and if they are not satisfied they can fix themself something when they get home. Takes the anxiety to be perfect away.

So Miss Lori, I went to make my pecan pies today, didn’t have cream so I made another recipe....dear Lord!! What a BIG mistake!!! It was one using corn syrup and needless to say, it didn’t work, I don’t know how but I ended up making candy!! So, a quick trip to Dollar General to grab some heavy cream quick and back to make YOUR recipe. I will never make another recipe but this one again!!! Easy peasy and they turned out great, including setting up in the middle! Thank you so much Miss Lori for a keeper recipe and saving my Thanksgiving desserts!

My Grandma made delicious pecan pies in her woodburning cookstove. She also made coconut cakes with fresh coconuts. She also used the "milk" in the coconut. The other was an egg custard pie. She had chickens and a milk cow. I think that was the reason we as always had the egg custard pies. These 3 are my favorites. I always think about my wonderful Grandma when I eat these desserts or a recipe for them. Thanks for the sweet memories today. Have a blessed day, stay safe and healthy 🥰👌👍😋🙏🔔🗽🇺🇸🙏🇺🇸

Any chance for that Cocoanut cake recipe?
@glendavertner89064 жыл бұрын
@@mamamode1312Sorry, I wish I had it. My Grandma died in 1973. I never saw her use a recipe. If there were recipes I don't know who got them. She had 7 children. Her icing was white and fluffy, maybe a Royal Icing, it was similar to meringue. The cake itself was a white cake. She probably added milk to the "coconut milk" to make enough liquid for the recipe. Also butter instead of lard. Not sure if Crisco was around then???? I know I never saw cooking oil, even in my mom's kitchen growing up. My mom was not a baker, but a good cook nor was I. Believe me, I would learn to bake her cake and pies. Grandma was a plain woman and she cooked that way, but it was all delicious.

I have often thought how skilled those women were who could cook all sorts of things in a wood burning stove. No setting of a temperature dial, just experience and knowledge as their guide. Amazing.

One way to always have a crisp bottom crust in your pie, never soggy. Stick a large cast iron skillet in the oven as it is preheating as you're preparing the pie. When the pie is ready to bake, set it in the hot cast iron skillet. It catches any over-flow and has always given me a crisp crust, which I could never do before. To make clean-up easy, line the skillet with foil before heating. So easy. I found a large Lodge cast iron skillet that holds a 10" pie plate with room to spare. Also use it for cooking those frozen mini quiches. Browns the quiches perfectly and elevates the flavor. Love your videos!!
