Instead of having to clear the bumper when you tilt the cab, attach the front of the cab to the bumper, and use the bumper as the tilt hinge. That way the HEAVY built bumper will act as a ballast. The heavier and lower the weight, the easier it'll be to tilt the cab.
@scottspropertyservices68778 ай бұрын
But the winch needs to be mounted to the chassis so that won’t work. Just have the bumper tilt forward like the cab does. Hinge it at the bottom & swing it down outta the way before tilting the cab. Pretty sure that’s how all the smaller Isuzu style COE’s do it from memory. Some have big eye bolts that go through the face of the bumper that double as tow points & also used to stop the bumper tilting forward when in driving/winching mode.

Love the mezzanine idea with the beam and chain. I think it would look just a little cleaner with a single chain and quick links on either end connected to your bracket, rather than the double up and hooks you have now, but I am actually thinking of doing something like this myself now when I build by own shop next spring. Mount the front bumper to the pivot point and have it pivot with the cab. Make a subframe to support the cab in its open position. Make the pivot across the front of the frame with steel tube. The subframe and the front bumper will be welded to a piece of tubing that is fitted around the front crossmember tube as a hinge point. The hold downs will be at the rear of the cab subframe will connect to the mainframe. You could make the hold downs like the hood pins on race cars.

Glad I found you guys your energy and sense of humor is great! The engineering is pretty good to. I was thinking bottle jack instead of the high lift or floor jack, but you all survived and fixed the problem okay. If you get time someday you could replace the chain on the beam with a solid rod and a large turnbuckle. Then you could use that chain for something else I'm sure.

You three brothers are so awesome. What about on the front bumper, you make it a swing down like they do on 18 wheelers?
@donhitchman42278 ай бұрын
You need to mount the whole cab to the bumper assembly and then you can tilt it all as one unit as longer as you get the frame straightened first. Then extend the cab/bumper mounts at least one inch ahead of the beams you welded onto the frame.
@jerryirick63528 ай бұрын
Option 352.9 ... Mount the front bumper like a dual Reese hitch ( one on each frame rail ). Pull pins then slide bumper out. Now cab can tilt up freely.
@Mattyice917 ай бұрын
May be late to the party. Been binge watching all your content for the last few nights! Love this channel: my suggestion would be could you find a big enough strut to assist with the cab lifting up and staying up. Like modern day car hoods but obviously a lot beefier!
@jamesfergusson99518 ай бұрын
build the front bumper with the same concept as the aluminum moose bumpers that herd and magnum truck accessories make, a pivot plate for the bottom of the bumper(through the frame rails), then a heavy locking pin in the top, I work for a custom fab company that makes bumpers purely for cabovers and front pivoting hoods and can attest that it'll be plenty strong if made with the right materials.
