Peckforton Light Railway - Extracts from my October 2023 Running Session - Part 2

October provided me with three days of glorious weather and, with no other commitments, I was at long last able to run a full session. This is Part 2. Peckforton Light Railway is a 45mm gauge, 15mm scale garden railway situated in Cheshire UK. It depicts my idea of a railway which might have existed to serve the local communities and copper mines along the Peckforton Hills in mid Cheshire. In truth there is no pub at the moment in Peckforton though there was one there in the 18th century - half timbered with a thatch roof. There is an excellent pub at Bulkeley - though it's confusingly called the Bickerton Poacher. They do B&B and have a camp site and do an excellent Sunday carvery. Not decided yet whether the PLR version of Peckforton will have re-opened the C18th pub. It's such a picturesque building it would be fun to model.

What are your thoughts on the LGB stainz. Wanna try getting into G scale for outdoor use. You seem to know your stuff, and I'd love your opinion

The LGB Stainz is a lovely little loco with a well designed and robust mechanism. I've converted four to battery power over the years and rebuilt my own Stainz to look more like a UK loco. Just curious but you heard of a show called tugs? Cause I 100% picture these engines having personalities similar to the characters in the show.

No, sorry. Not familiar with Tugs. My steam locos are named after local towns and villages and my infernal combustion locos are named after either members of the Tollemache family or my own family

@@rikbennett9 Well I recommend watching an episode or two it’s actually a pretty good show. You’ll see why I pictured them having personalities from tugs instead of something like thomas and friends.

6:40, is this the first time one of the engines has failed during a running session?

It is a very rare occurrence - but it has happened a couple of times previously. This is probably the most severe problem I've encountered - stripped gears - but then it was a very old and time-worn motor block. I've now replaced the gears.
