I really think Widowmaker should have gotten himself a girlfriend rather than feeling angry at Sue for "stealing" his best friend. I highly doubt he felt happy getting Bill back at the end because Bill was obviously too depressed about Sue being lost.

All Pecos Bill would have to do is buy or borrow a bustle then he could jump off a cliff & bounce to the moon himself where Sue went. I wish he'd have thought of that. If Widowmaker had found a girl too, then I'm sure he'd have been more relaxed.

Looks like Widowmaker is now Widower-Maker since he killed Sue. And yes, the horse got his "funny name" because the many men that he killed (before Pecos Bill tamed him) were married men.

I'd like to give you a heads up. He didn't kill Sue. She just went all the way to the moon. That's where she stayed is what the narrator said. But there was no way she'd be able to survive there. Her only way back to earth I guess would be to catch a shooting star. That might help her out of her ordeal.

Widow Maker was standing on the rope when he tossed it to catch Sue. If he hadn't of been standing on the rope Bill wouldn't have missed.

True, there are a couple of versions in which Sue survives, but I think that they were written to downplay the tragedy of the original story. Disney's ending, I suppose, was closer to the original, but nobody dies. Look at it this way: all of the other "Tall Tale" heroes of Disney (i.e. Johnny Appleseed, John Henry, and Paul Bunyan) have something in nature that serves as their "memento" ("apple blossom" clouds, thunder, the Northern Lights), and the coyote howling is Disney's way of keeping with that theme

In the original book it was more tragic. Sue bounced for 3 days and 4 nights and kept hitting her head on the bottom of the moon and was crying buckets. Even Pecos couldnt stop her bouncing so he ended up shooting her so she wouldnt starve to death from bouncing.

It's interesting to note that teachers aren't allowed to show Pecos Bill in Elementary school classes. My 8-year old son is also learning about American Tall Tales, but he was allowed to watch the Disney cartoon about Paul Bunyan, while Pecos Bill was deemed objectionable because of the tobacco use, the 'redskins', and Sue's bustle. Even the story they read won't call it a bustle - it's known as a 'springy, coiled hoop'. I hate how the classics are watered down nowadays.
