Pedal Commander Is A Must Have For Your Subaru Crosstrek!

In this video I will be installing and reviewing the Pedal Commander for my 2019 Subaru Crosstrek! Coming into this mod I’ll admit I was skeptical about these throttle response controllers. But to my surprise as seen in this video it has easily become one of my favorite mods to date! This is a mod that I highly recommend to not only all the Subie fam but, anyone who wants to have more fun in their Car!

This part is a must for this car. Installed in my 17 crosstrek limited and it’s absolutely opened the car up and is certainly faster when you need it. Highly recommend, you’d be foolish not to try it!

We purchased out 2017 Subaru Outback 2.5 a couple years ago. The stock throttle response is borderline dangerously slow, in certain situations (merging on interstate in traffic). Within a couple of months, I purchased the Pedal Commander. I could not image not having it! Absolutely can't say enough about how pleased my wife and are have been! HIGHLY recommend!

whats so funny is i have a 23 forester sport. i love the way this thing drove so i ended up getting rid of my wifes 21 rav4 limited for a 23 outback limited 2.5, thinking that itll respond the same as it does in the forester. i couldnt be more wrong. now dont get me wrong, the outback still drives and rides fantastic, kinda like riding on a cloud. but this motor doesnt feel right for this car or something. the turbo was out of the question, since i heard it was problematic. it could be because the forester comes with s/i ( sport and wilderness) drive which i think could be it, or maybe the transmission since the forester comes with a 7 speed ( sport) and the outback with an 8 speed. anyhow, im convinced that getting the outback a sprint booster will solve the acceleration problem for the outback. i had one on my 2019 tacoma sport and changed driving that truck on a dynamic level.

Hi thanks for the video, 2 questions. Have you had the opportunity to test this pedal commander with the x-mode , how it works? Do you know how is the response of the car with this device climbing a hill, could it break the CVT?

I was skeptical too because i thought it would only effect throttle response but your talking about quicker shifts

With more throttle open you'll def run through the shifts quicker. You can do the same thing by pressing your throttle pedal further and faster then you normally do. It's not changing the shift points etc it's just reaching them sooner due to the throttle being more open at a lower pedal deflection.

Just got one for my 19 Subaru Crosstrek after watching your video! I'm wondering did you have the actual acceleration boost in numbers? I think the stock 0-60 is 9 seconds.

Nah man this item doesn’t cut on your 0-60 time. It literally just a mechanism that removes throttle lag!

I know this is an old post, but - It is eliminating the electronic throttle lag. Meaning its not just “pushing the pedal harder.” Its also kicking the engine on much faster. So your real-life acceleration improves, because your car starts moving forward much sooner than before. It is NOT equivalent to just “pushing down harder” - just to correct this information for people watching this video.

I have had some people with the 6speed tell me it works. I have never owned a manual transmission so I can't say how it will work. But apparently it works!

All it does if affect the throttle response from the computer. So yes it should work on a manual.

Great video but unfortunately (from what I'm reading/watching) it literally only adjusts the opening of the throttle rather than an actual performance upgrade. For instance on another video the owner measured throttle opening (degrees) with the actual pedal in the exact same amount of depression (it was limited how far it would go). The only thing that changed was the Pedal Commander was merely opening the throttle body more with same pedal deflection. So instead of (assumptions) the throttle being open 20deg at 1/4 throttle it might be opening 40deg or 40deg depending in which setting you are running. It's like you simply pressing the gas pedal more than you're used to which also explains why on the higher settings its so "Jumpy". Unfortunately it's not able to open it any more than the hardcoded MAX TB Opening is so it's just re-configuring how much the throttle opens for a certain amount of pedal deflection. If someone has proof of this doing more than re-mapping the throttle opening please provide it as I'd love to get one for myself but I'm more than capable of merely pushing the throttle pedal further and faster myself.

How did you remove the plug? I tried just pulling on mine and it doesn't come off. Are there clips I'm not seeing?

There is a spot to push in on the clip and then it should slide out! It took me a minute to do because of the angle

Also, thanks for all these Crosstrek videos. I just got a manual one a year ago, and feel like this is such a great mod for it…if I can get the factory plug off, lol. Love the stuff you’ve done!
