Thank you for watching! Yay you’re almost done so hang in there!! Yes it was nerve wracking to transition into the real world but just like any job you get the hang of it pretty quick! I was taught the basics to provide a good dental cleaning in school but as you practice hygiene you will develop your own techniques and become an expert at getting into those interproximal areas ;) Dental Hygienists are considered providers alongside the Doctor so I felt the pressure when I first started to make sure that I co-diagnosed properly with my Doctors. That’s where I felt under qualified just a bit because I did not have the experience that others did. As you continue growing in your career you will build that self confidence! Good luck to you! Would you say pediatric is easier than general despite seeing much more patients in a day at a pediatric office? I’ve been working full time at a general office for three years and I’m considering switching to pediatric

I am a dental student but unlike, I don't have industry experience as you do. Although income is not the only factor that will determine my choice of specialization, it will a contributing factor. How much does a pediatric dentist make? From your experience, what dental specialization pays the most?

Hey thanks for watching! Well I’m a hygienist not dentist so I’m not that sure on income for a dentist. I do know that because they are a specialty they charge more for services rather than at a general offices. But they also do not get extensive treatment plans like veneers or crowns and bridges which bring in more income for a general dentist. I would say oral surgeons make really good money but they are also medical doctors so of course more schooling. Good luck to you in your studies!! I’m sure you will be a great dentist!!

Hey! I’m currently doing my pre-requisites for dental hygiene. I love kids and I would like to be in a pediatric office. I’m not sure how it works do I have to study pediatric dental hygiene in college is there such things like that ? Or is it just dental hygiene in general ? like it’s for children and adults ?

Thanks for watching! So unfortunately many pediatric offices do not have hygienists. The reason is because dental assistants usually do the cleanings. The kids do not usually require rigorous cleanings below the gumline therefore you do not have to be a hygienist to do the cleaning. In my case I found a doctor who does have hygienists. We typically see older kids 12+ who may sometimes have a little calculus below the gums but not much. Another thing to consider is the income. It is significantly different than being a hygienist at a general dental office. Much less that is, but fairly so due to the fact that you have it much easier. Good luck to you in your studies!!! 😊

Hi loved this video I am super interested in dentistry and pediatric dentistry. But I want to work on kids and adults which would I choose? I mostly want to work with kids though. I want the office bright and colorful. I want to have rooms but an open area as well. Is this all possible?

L S thank you for watching!! I love both! If you mostly want to work on kids then I would lean towards pediatric. Most pediatric offices have an open Bay Area for the cleaning s and separate rooms for treatment. Great environment and def will keep you on your toes! Good luck!!
