I was confused about the fontanel question about why the 28-month-old option was correct, and it was that a child with hydrocephalus may have a delayed closing of fontanel. If anyone was wondering about that one too.

I was wondering too. Thanks 🎻

I know I am late but I thought I would leave this here for others questioning it! The rationale, according to a quizlet, is that "the child with hydrocephalus may have a delayed closing of the fontanel." So I guess it's okay because there is a reason for it (the water accumulates and causes it to swell).
@permalino1 Жыл бұрын
waiting for that rationale too... i found this online as well " Causes of both large fontanels and delayed closure include increased intracranial pressure or delayed ossification of the cranium caused by an underlying genetic, nutritional, or metabolic etiology."

Hi Professor D, love your channel, thank you for what you're doing. In lieu of good instructors, there's always youtube! haha... I love how you explain rationales thoroughly and go thru what the wrong choices and tell us for which question that would be for... One thing though, on 11:11 mark, you read one of the choices but didn't give a rationale as to why that was wrong. I've been doing pretty well when I follow along, and when I do get something wrong, your rationale explanation would usually clear it up. I was anxiously waiting as to why the answer couldn't have been "a 28 month old with hydrocephalus and an open anterior fontanel." At that age, their anterior fontanel should be closed already by 9 to 18 months. I'm assuming it's not due to hydrocephalus, because it doesn't specifically say there's ICP present. I'm sure there's a valid reasoning... please comment back when you get a chance. Thanks again for what you do! Great job...

I have a question about the 18-month-old with the cardiac cath. My book says to immobilize the affected extremity in a flat position for at least 4 hours for venous entry site and 6 for arterial. Can you explain a little more about why the correct answer wouldn't be to restrain the child's lower extremities? Thanks!
