Bowie is so adorable! He wasn't trying to bite you when he stepped onto your hand, he grabbed you to pull himself onto your hand and balance himself! When he puts his head down he's inviting you to pet him. Beautiful bird! "Tickle tickle!"

yes, beware of the 'bitey phase'; it can last a few months & usually starts at about a yr old, or younger. They will test you, their bites can be hard, but whatever you do, try not to react too much or else they become conditioned to always bite you to get a reaction. I wore a lot of long sleeves & bandages!

I lost my Father 2 weeks ago to the Chineses Virus, i was lost and did not know what to do anymore. I was severely depressed. But i came on here and Bowie saved me. My Australian Rosella always started to nibble my hands if she wanted belly scratches. Bowie is so adorable

they require a lot of attention. they usually go through a bitey phase that starts at about a year (or earlier) and can last a few months. THey can bite pretty hard. But once u get thru that, they are little angels. Taming depends on their temperament, most ringnecks can be tamed well since they are very smart and 'get it' if you repeat the training a few times. Males tend to talk more. Good luck with your choice, any bird you chose should be one that you really like. IRNs live for about 30 yrs.

No, there are a few people who breed ringnecks regularly in BC, some on Vancouver Island. I purchased him from Victoria, BC. The breeder just happened to be breeding Lutinos, however I was actually looking for Violet & Blue but the lutinos are so beautiful. I got Bowie because I trusted the breeder from everything she told me :)

Bowie bites when he's mad that I've kept him in his cage for a long time; when he also doesn't want to go to bed. But they're not as bad & he doesn't keep it up. How long was his biting period when he was a baby? Most birds will moult within the first 3 or 4 months. You can ease their itchiness with misting water on them, giving them a drop or two of Sunshine Factor (palm oil) - Harrison's food sells itl. Yes lunging normal; sometimes they just don't want to do what you want them to do :)
