Its 2 am and I'm watching you weave this frame. I have a set a bar stools were the rush has perished. I have cut the old rush off and unscrewed the frame from the stool , so now I have the loose frame without the corners as shown in this video. I have never weaved before but this tutorial gives me the confidence to attempt my own weave. Its very difficult to find danish cord or paper rush in Australia and its very expensive to buy online, so I'm going to try complete my project using beige paracord instead. Thanks for your very easy to follow and understand series of videos.

I just redid my kitchen chair, using jute rope/string, 6mm thick. The first time I did it, I followed your video, but over 6 years, it sagged badly. This time, I did only one loop at a time, pulling with all my strength and clamping every corner to get it properly tight. My 45 degree angles aren't perfectly straight, but it is good and tight now, let's see how it fares under some of the rather larger people that use that chair now! I also re used the original jute, and had a good 15 inches left over, so either it stretched or I got a little more tension into the seat this time. A good 50 bucks spent, compared to what I would imagine a professional would have asked...

I do wonder what was used as a structural filler before cardboard was invented... The current "rush" material is now twisted paper. Were actual rushes twisted together or was twisted straw also used?

Hello Mr. Hammond. I have a beautiful 2nd hand store chair in need of a new rush seat without corners. It was originally sea grass. I haven't been able to locate a resourch with responsibly harvested grass. Would you know of one or shall i try another material? I live in a very dry climate. Also curious if an oil might be used to extend the life of the seat. I appreciate your instructional video. Thank you!

Fabulous instructions, I am based in the UK otherwise I would definately buy supplies from you. I cannot beleive how well my first attempt was using 5 mm seagrass and folliwng your instructions, but I think maybe the seagrass was too thick. I will try 3.5 mm sized seagrass on the next chair and then try some natural rush so I can compare results.

Hi Ed! Brilliant to watch! I have completed 6 Nils Moller chairs before based on your other video. Question: Is there a reason why you knot the rush halfway and not tag it when you run out of rush?

Could I do this using Seagrass? What is the difference? The seat I have has originally been done in some form of paper cord, which is quite flat.

Thank you so much for your informative video. I am about to tackle my first rush weaving on a no corner frame. I have a question about the staples. Can I use the standard T-50 3/8" crown or do I need to use the 1/4" crown?
@edhammond2497
@edhammond2497 3 жыл бұрын
The T50 staples are quite a bit wider and difficult to attach to round rails. You could try it. I found the T25 cable staples are a perfect fit, but you also need the T25 stapler to use them. I use the 3/8" T25 staples.

I have a rocker from Cracker Barrel that my cats have clawed the paper rushould to pieces. I’ve rewoven the seat by following video instruction. However, I cannot find any information on how to weave the back. I want it to look like the original but canot find a single instruction article. The back has square corners but don't undrstand how to get started or how the weave starts on the outside edge of three vertical posts. Can you help me?

Take the back apart very slowly, taking many photos of how they did it, and reverse engineer the process to teach yourself how to do it.

If you are not confident about removing the frame, I'd take it to a furniture refinisher and have him take it off.

how would you do a chair frame with an armrest handle near the center of the side?
@edhammond2497
@edhammond2497 7 жыл бұрын
I would remove the armrest handle, then weave the seat and then replace the armrest handle. You may have to wrap the outer edge of the hole to fill in.

I have to design a frame with no corners for a chair I'm making, should I cut the frame shorter than the opening of the chair to make some space for where the rush goes over the edges of the frame?
@edhammond2497
@edhammond2497 8 жыл бұрын
+abdullghoriO1 If the rush is going to go over the edges of the frame, then it seems like you will need to allow room for that, so that the frame will then fit in the opening.

@edhammond2497

+abdullghoriO1 It's usually attached from the bottom with screws, just separate the rush a little where the screws will go through.

Where do you purchase your rush from? Yours does not seem to have any problems with unraveling as mine can do
@peerlessrattansuppliesllc7113
@peerlessrattansuppliesllc7113 5 жыл бұрын
I have discovered that people who have trouble with it unraveling are actually causing it by the way they are handling the rush and weaving. Try turning your spool upside down and take the rush off from the other side, try using smaller coils as you weave. Try not to let it unravel while putting it around the rungs. We sell rush on our website peerlessrattan.com

the rush I'm using is untwisting although I only wet it for few seconds. I think it is smaller than want you use. what size should I be using?
@edhammond2497
@edhammond2497 7 жыл бұрын
I normally use size 6/32, that's what I am using in the videos. Beginning weavers sometimes find size 5/32 easier to use, but it may tend to come apart if it's too wet.
