It's really beautiful, well made and could be passed down to the next generation of artists. I'm happy to see one. I'm content with my watercolor sketchbook, small palette and a few chosen art utensils for on the go. I almost always paint flat and have never tried an easel. It'd be fun to see to see your dad in action using this pochade box.

Wow, she’s beautiful isn’t she😍 I like that the water pots click on the sides like that, and how the whole thing works as it’s own unit! Realistically, I would likely not be able to paint outside for long before I’d decide to just snap a picture and bring it back to the studio😂 it sure is pricey too, but I understand why with the quality and sturdiness, plus it’s all wooden and leather. It’s nice that you were able to share it with us and take a close look at it, and I’m sure your dad will really enjoy using it! Also, I love his choice of paints😅

I usually don't last very long outside, especially if the weather isn't favourable, but I'd definitely want to mount it onto a tripod and stand somewhere pretty to paint. I think I'd quite like it as the oil painting setup. 🙂

What a great video… thanks to your dad for loaning it to you so you could make a video to share! I hope he enjoys his art box; it is definitely a gorgeous item and looks like a wonderful treat purchase. I love seeing products like this reviewed, because, as you said, it’s hard to find videos of some things. I love the look of them, but definitely not something I’m willing to pay for at the moment 😊. I felt indulgent when I ordered the Etchr Slate mini last summer (on sale!). For a travel bag, the Etchr field case and slate mini really work well for me. I love seeing all the options that are out there though… so interesting!!
@BeckyTregear Жыл бұрын
I love the Etchr field case! I'd been using mine for life drawing but I haven't attended for a while so I plan on sorting it out into a new configuration, maybe for travelling. I tried the larger Etchr bag and wow was that thing heavy! I think the Slate would be easier to carry. 😊

It's one of those totally luxurious items which I am glad I was able to look at, if for a brief while. A bit like when we went into a Breitling watch store and I oohed and ahhed over the ladies watches and then slunk out because the cheapest was $5000! 😂

@@BeckyTregear Yes, exactly! I love looking at beautiful things and being in awe of the quality and craftsmanship that goes into making them and luckily I find that fulfilling enough to have no desire to buy them. I only buy things I know I’m going to use on a regular basis - I get anxious and overwhelmed from buying things that I’ve hardly used and have them taking up space in my home and subsequently clutter my mind and my heart and sap my energy, I want to keep these precious spaces free for the things I love…

It is a very lovely item and I hope your father gets many happy painting times with it! Thank you and him for showing it to us! I honestly thought it looked a bit to bulky to bring out on a plein air trip and the space to put paper on is very small. As an earlier comment said it would be a lovely thing for someone who does miniature and think so too. But I agree it looks so lovely and I would be happy if I recieved it as a gift😉! For outdoor painting I think the Etchr Slate mini would be easier to carry and to set up than this beautiful pochade box.
@BeckyTregear Жыл бұрын
I think it would be fine for car trips where weight isn't an issue, but perhaps for flying somewhere it would be entirely too heavy! I've tried the original Etchr satchel and that thing weighed a ton as well, lol, but I am sure the mini version would be a lot lighter. 🙂

It's so hard to know until it has been used a few times as to how practical it really is - I like it for the fanciness of the box but it is pretty heavy, which could be an issue. I wouldn't lug it on a difficult hiking trip, but for easy outdoor areas I imagine it'd be fun to use. 🙂
@SarahBaileyArts Жыл бұрын
@@BeckyTregear Oh yes, definitely fun to use, I guess I was thinking more in terms of the amount of space/weight it takes compared to a compact setup, but maybe the luxurious/classic 1920's painter vibe is totally worth it, I could see that!

@@SarahBaileyArts I can see what you mean as well. I tend to carry more than would fit in the box. 😂

It is very cute, I like it. I would want the oil version, but its also not something I need at this stage, nor will I expect to get. I haven't done Plein Air painting before, although I would actually be interested in it. One of the reasons for not doing it, is not knowing where to start. Oil paints are my main medium and I always wonder how people travel with wet oil canvases. They always feels so messy, or at least I end up covered in paints, so maybe I am better off in my studio. :)
@BeckyTregear Жыл бұрын
I think the oil box would work well in that the little gesso boards stack with gaps so it might be ok to store a wet painty one in one of the slots? And the glass palette would hopefully have some space above it to transport blobs of paint. I'd be curious to try it out!

Hi Becky.. This brand makes very beautiful things, pochade boxes and bags and cases and palettes but everything is soooo overpriced. I personally though I love their stuff, that I first saw at their etsy store, I can't afford to buy them in Greece considering that I have pay on top of their price the import taxes. This box is very beautiful but way too expensive at 600 dollars.

@@BeckyTregear Art materials should not be and/or become luxury items. Artists are poor people after all. I do appreciate the aesthetic but... that aesthetic was supposed to be the poor and humble people's one. Anyway... by the time that you have, or your father has this beautiful box do use it. I make most of my art stuff. I'm making my own watercolours, I bind my own sketchbooks with hard or soft covers, I make my own bags and I repurpose all about everything. The other day f.e I repurposed an old leather belt that I found into a plastic bag next to the recycling bins into a long handle for my sketching bags. It just needed two clips that I secured them with thick waxed thread. You have no idea what people throw at the recycling bins.
