Damn… the face of the interviewer after Peggy talks about the “female DJ” part… 😂😂😂 at least sister learned a new lesson that day!
@groove_assembly2 ай бұрын
I think Peggy was a bit harsh on the interviewer here, it's a perfectly reasonable question. Peggy Gou is one of the first female DJs & producers today to reach the success that would've otherwise been unheard of for women 20 years ago...I think she has had a massive influence as a role model to women and minorities, encouraging them to get into the dance music business and succeed. In the broader music industry generally, it's very hard for women to succeed without being abused or sexualised in some way by those at the top...and there are too many examples to name here. While I do agree with Peggy in that it would be best that a 'female' DJ isn't something of note, it's definitely of note now as we gradually move away from a music industry that makes it very hard for women to succeed. Hope the interviewer doesn't regret that question too much because it's clear Peggy had to work very very hard to get to this point!

@@groove_assembly People like you is why more and more gradually began/begin to hate the scene. You are the loudest at screaming "NO DIVISION" but you are exactly the one doing it. You also must have never heard of Monika Kruse. There are also Charlotte de Witte, Alisson Wonderland, Nina Kravitz, Amelie Lens, Helena Hauff, Ellen Alien who all were headliners at big festivals or events before Peggy Gou's blow up after "Nanana". I also don't want to take anything away from her because i really do like her music and told people that "Nanana" will be everywhere and the song of the summer when nearly anybody even heard of it and she is completely right in what she said. You are extending the division instead of ending it but you don't get it.
@groove_assemblyАй бұрын
@@infrarot4052I’m doing quite the opposite of causing division but simply pointing out a disappointing reality. Female DJs like Helena hauff and Nina kravtitz did have popularity before Peggy, but I think we can all agree they’re more or less in the same epoch of music c. 2010s. Prior to that say even in the late 90s / early 2000s female DJs were much less prominent then than they were 10 years ago, it was very male dominated back then e.g David Guetta, Carl Cox, Pete Tong Orbital, The Prodigy. As a test trying googling top DJs of the 90s and 2000s and you’ll find that 90% of them are men if not all men. It’s the cohort of DJs you mentioned plus others like Jayda G, Carista, Paula Temple and Dr Rubinstein who have made significant headway into enabling women into the scene. Even these DJs haven’t reached the same level of mainstream as Peggy. On your point on Monika Kruse yes she existed way before Peggy but even then she was nowhere near as big as Peggy in terms of following / reach. My point is that Peggy has reached levels that no women have reached before. I bet that if you asked people in the smoking area of a UK nightclub about 1% of people would know who monika kruse is!
