I realized what this all meant when I got a Siamese kitten. She was BAD! Her first xmas, she was about 4 months old. Got stuck inside the xmas tree, chewed every corner off of every present under the tree, slapped the ornaments off of the bottom half of the tree. got stuck in the tree AGAIN. Father xmas should have brought her coal and a bundle of switches for xmas. She was a beautiful cat, but a total uphill struggle.

I think what kinda made them scary to me as a kid was that Lady was essentially powerless to them. She was the only thing keeping them from disturbing the fish, bird, or baby. She had to keep constant tabs on them, because if they're in a different room, they could be causing trouble. But if Lady DOES anything about it, she gets in trouble.

Funnily enough, Lady was exactly the same way. She had no hostility towards them whatsoever at first, just curiosity (she's likely never even seen a cat before), and while they were rubbing up against her you can see her start to almost smile. What is perhaps even more funny is that in the real world, Cocker Spaniels are a dog breed known to get along well with cats, and Siamese are a cat breed known to get along well with dogs. Put simply, if Si and Am had not made it their life's mission to fuck shit up the moment they came out of the basket, Lady would likely have gotten along very well with them.

My siamese is better fed than myself, but he's obsessed with stealing food - even if it's food that he doesn't normally enjoy. For example, if I present him with a fatty piece of meat he would look at me as though I offended his ancestors by eating the lean meat and offering him the scraps. If I leave a piece of fat on my plate and go away for a while, not only will he steal it from my plate but also he will eat it with pleasure as if the act of stealing it made it tastier 😂

This was written during WWII when racism and genuine hatred towards Japanese and other Asian people was at its highest in the US. The US bombed Japan twice only ten years before this movie’s release resulting in hundreds of thousands of innocent people dying. Disney is also no stranger to racist depictions. Their names “Si” and “Am” some people consider racist because they play into the stereotype of Asian people, especially the Chinese and Japanese having short, few-letter names. Their accents and the broken English play into racist stereotypes, as well as their buck teeth and the stereotypical gong music. This movie started being written around 1937 when a Disney artist at the time named Joe Grant came up with a story about his dog Lady being jealous of his new baby. Walt Disney loved the idea of it and it went into production. Then he bought the rights to a story published in Cosmopolitan in 1945, ‘Happy Dan, the Cynical Dog’ that added the Tramp to Lady and the Tramp. It was apparently also his idea to add two Siamese cats to cause a few problems. I don’t think there’s much of an argument against it being racist given the stereotypes he used and, y’know, it was 1945.

Love this. I had a seal point Siamese cat years ago. He had the most amazing character and was loved by everyone on our small road, where he had his own blanket and bed in many of the neighbouring houses he visited daily. He was a terrible thief though and would proudly bring home strings of sausages & other finds, plus frogs and sloe worms (thankfully alive). He had the sweetest nature and I miss him so much ❤️🐾❤️

Just thought id point out that little thing. For the rest, yeah its stereotypical as hell on the surface but.... Siamese are very sly, smart and always up to mischief so it was very fitting to use them, Siamese are also originally from Siam(Thailand). So they ARE Asian, so that's why they decided on making them Asian in the first place. I guess they really wanted their audience to know this unfortunately cast a strong accent that might come off a bit ridiculous. Thai music adopted Chinese elements so the background music itself is probably just traditional Chinese/Thai inspired. They didn't intentionally want to specifically make Asian people the bad guys, for example they have an Siamese cat in Aristocats who is not a bad guy! l thought yeah its very outdated depiction from perhaps THEIR own knowledge of the country at that time(pure ignorance at its finest), and obviously cant be included in the remake unless they really do it right/more modern and learn the proper culture they intend to depict. It depends on the cat and the dog. In our situation, the cats had been there longer than the dog so they saw him as an invader. I suppose if you get a cat that has been raised with dogs/ or a kitten and your dog is good with cats then you shouldn't have too much of a problem. Introduce them smartly and slowly and there shouldn't be problems.

Not a matter of being good or evil, just of instincts telling them to go chase, play with and kill anything that's edible, chaseable and killable. That's also why they play with cat toys, it engages their hunting instincts. They also give gifts because they think you're a crappy cat that can't hunt for themselves so they want to feed you and teach you to hunt, which is actually really sweet in my opinion.

I can't believe I'm wasting my time debating the lyrics of a 60 year old Disney cartoon song with someone for whom English is not their native language. I'm going to make this as clear as I can and use small words so your limited English vocabulary can understand it, then I'm done, if you don't get it after that, I give up. Firstly, no one is debating the fact that these cats are villainous, that's obvious. Secondly, its painfully obvious to EVERYONE that these two cats have intentions of eating the bird, the fish, and the milk. What the original poster was (I believe) referring to was the banter BETWEEN the cats themselves. Beginning at 1:24. First cat says "a head for you" ("you" meaning the second cat), the second cat replies, "and a tail for me?" That's it. That's the entire fish theoretically being eaten by the SECOND cat alone, with none being left for the first cat, who suggested they split the fish to begin with.Do you get it? THAT'S the "joke", not a joke, like "knock, knock", but a subtle implication that the second cat is taking advantage of the kindness of the first cat and is also greedier than the first cat. One last try on my part, if two halves of a sandwich were put in front of you and me, and you said to me, "oh look, half for you", and I cut you off and replied with "and half for me!" These cats are intriguing. We have no indication of their existence until Lady approaches the basket and they never appear in the film again, but despite being the only cats in a film focused almost exclusively on dogs- with a few human side characters- they and their song make an impression on almost every viewer. They also capture the best and worst of feline behaviour: the curiosity, obvious cunning, the taunting of birds and fish, the ripping of curtains, the cosying-up to their owner and of course, framing the nearest dog. Anyone who has ever lived with or around a cat knows exactly what this scene is telling us.

Ever since I was little, I’ve had this record with the Lady and the tramp soundtrack (it’s actually the story, based on the Disney movie), narrated in first person by Ginny Tyler as Lady. Plus all the songs; as I watch this I can almost hear Lady saying(on the record), “I hadn’t reckoned with Aunt Sarah, who arrived the next day to babysit while Jim Dear and Darling went away on vacation. She brought with her a big wicker basket, inside of which were TWO SIAMESE CATS!!” thus bringing on the lively Siamese Cat Song.
