Perfect timing Peggy! I am in SoCal and literally just cut my albo yesterday. I did an air layer in moss with one of the aerial roots. I did the beheading last night 😬, let it callous over and now I’m look at two albos! I am going to try and grow the top cutting in moss and let the roots develop more before transferring to the mother plant. I’m trying to get a bushier overall look. Both are doing well (so far!) 😎

I just got brave and got two cuttings and a node from my mother plant. The last time I tried to prop, I used a deliciosa and it rotted so next time I will try air layering. I have not been very successful with moss so this might be a better option. I mixed Tree fern fiber and Fluval stratum and in less than a week one of the Albo cuttings is showing off. I am. Nodes take forever, so we will see what happens with that. When you see an arial root, you should dance! That is a sure sign your plant is happy. Oh I also mixed moss and tree fern fiber into a D moss pole and now the root has grown into the pot in less than a month. Very happy! May I ask why you have it in a self watering pot?
@PeggysPlants5 ай бұрын
I have it in a self watering pot because it is in Leca. I like to use self watering pots with leca because it's easier for me to maintain. Mine is attached to a moss pole but is growing kinda crazy. I'm thinking about propagating it so I can get it to grow in a more orderly fashion, but they can take forever to grow. Best of luck with your propagations and happy growing!

I’m no pro but I have been binge watching videos about this plant and learned that back in the beginning when you only had one leaf that leaf should have always faced the sun apparently you’re not supposed to rotate this plant you’re supposed to always leave the leaves towards the sun, the other thing I learned is if you want less variegation give it less sun. I personally think you’re doing a great job with this plant. Have you ever thought about wrapping the stem with sphagnum moss then Saran Wrap where the Ariel root is I wonder if it would grow new roots? Then you would feel much safer cutting it, I just got a top cutting with one mushy root so I’m trying to figure out what to do.
@PeggysPlants2 жыл бұрын
As with most plants, there is more than one way of doing things. If you want your leaves to all grow facing one direction, you shouldn't rotate it. Most variegated plants will give more variegation if you have them in higher lighting conditions. Wrapping the arial root as you described is another way of stimulating root growth and it works well on these plants. I chose the method I used because it is simple and worked best for me. I highly encourage you to do what works best for you and meets your needs. Best of luck with your cutting!

Hi Peggy. Did you just submerge the root and not the stem in leca to avoid rot? Right now I’m water propagating a two leaf top cutting which I eventually want to grow in leca. Just trying to determine how to pot my cutting when the time comes. Thx
@PeggysPlants Жыл бұрын
I only submerged the root. I have one now that I am propagating the same way. I will show it in a video soon. Works like a charm and you don't have to worry about rot. I've killed enough Monstera Albos with root rot. I haven't lost one yet using this method. Best of luck!

This exact thing happened to me with a seller too. I had to cut the leaves off in the end… Now I have a node with roots, the cut areas do not look good at all, BUT I do see a lil bump appearing now, so we shall see. The most I’ve ever spent, on a plant I’ve always wanted, but the USPS lost? the package for a week, so when I got her I had to cut the leaves(2) off and just hope for the best. She looked like yours- “rooted plant” = 2 roots from a node.
