Its kind of funny how the anime changed the ending scene for Sakura from what was in the novel. Its almost completely different. I remember way back when I first saw it the last ep when it first came out as a worldwide simulcast, and the memes that made Sakura look like a sadistic kid. Lots of context casual watchers won't get about her, Kariya, and a lot of other things. Makes me wonder why Urobuchi even let that slide.

@@brambl3014 Late reply but she finds Kariya's dead body and has an internal monologue where she gives up trying to escape and surrenders to the hopelessness. I think the message was supposed to be the same but the anime tried to make it edgier and condense it into just a tiny scene. In the LN she's much more forlorn and depressed at finding the dead Kariya. So in the novels she's convinces herself there's no escape. In the anime she almost scolds Kariya for trying to defy fate. The message is the same, Sakura drops any hope for being rescued. But you can see the difference.

“why is the holy grail out of control” I wonder that for a long time. At first watch I thought It was because Kiritsugu wanted the world to saved but had no idea how to do it so the Grail took the option He knows best as It cannot come up with the idea itself but some people who have some VN knowledge about FSN’s say some things about Angra mainyu and alike that I don’t really understand

The Holy Grail absorbs mana from defeated servants to grant wishes. Angra mainyu (Known as All the World's Evil) was a very tainted person so once he died as a servant in the previous Holy Grail War, the mana the grail absorbed was so bad that it tainted the Grail's system. Kiritsugu's original wish to save the world was, I think, something like end all violence or end all bloodshed, but the Corrupted Grail distorted his wish. If you're curious, you could watch the Heaven's Feel movies to see exactly how much the Grail has been corrupted.

Essentially, Angra Mainyu turned the grail into a Monkey's Paw situation. Its not even "be careful what you wish for," because it WILL screw you over no matter what.

There is something deeper to this though. The grail is tainted yes, and will answer a wish with a bad outcome, but the point is that Kiritsugu can't really see saving the world through any other lens than sacrifice, that was the big thing that they pointed out in the novel too. So beyond the fact the grail is tainted by Angra Mainyu, its Kiritsugu himself that was distorted as well. If he got his wish, how exactly would it have been granted when people having free will is what can sometimes drive conflict. It'd be essentially require to remove free will from humans.
