It's a famous Kaiji scam, which is what Neko Neko Island is based on.

For those who haven't watched Kaiji, the underground kingdom is a trap by giving the workers low pay, yet every week a convenience cart makes its round selling stuff like beer and skewers. The worker initially refuses to spend their low pay in the hope of buying their freedom back, but the foreman treats the worker to their first beer. They then give in and spend all their pay on beer and food, and end up without any money, thus resigning to work all their lives. The protaganist Kaiji ends up in this cycle, and while he initially escapes by volunteering for a death game (the infamous Brave Man's Road), later on he has left and entered the underground prison so many times that he is able to reliable leave the prison almost any time he wants (and yes, he almost always loses all his money and gets dragged back down into the prison. In fact, it appears that Kaiji only shines when he's faced with poverty and desperation; whenever he returns to normal society with money he becomes lazy and refuses to work).

Am I missing something? What's the issue with y:-54? IIRC diamonds now are far more common the deeper you go so -54 isn't bad isn't it? Like the only "scam" I see with that is if Doroken asks those in debt to only dig in a certain direction at the end of that long hallway @ 1:48 but even then it's just the "walk" that's horrible

I was wondering this myself, given that -54 is a fairly normal depth for diamond mining. I assume she thought that depth had already been dug out entirely? But like you stated even if they're required to walk down a long hallway it's just normal diamond mining in the end.

As far as I know, neko neko fainyance only dug down into that cavern + some tunnels. They didn't take any already exposed diamonds. The real thing meant to trap people, however, is a gambling facility that's yet to be built.

As far as I know doroken digged up most diamonds in that area, but technically those in debt just have to walk for a bit until they reach a place where doroken didn't dig and unless doroken takes away the fortune pickaxes it should be easy to get 500+ diamonds in a few hours. It's still a bit mean, but technically not really a scam :D

Akukin disbanded due to not being able to pay their workers due to overexpansion - the CEO fled the server at night. (In reality, Aqua stopped playing MC for a long while so everyone split) Okayu started really getting into Minecraft so she decided to make her own company called Dorobou Kensetsu (Thieves' Construction) and they are probably the most active one at the moment. Likely because the people in Doroken weren't that into Minecraft at first so they still got lots to do. It's mainly Gamers + HoloX. Okayu the leader, Fubuki and Mio, Korone the newbie recruit from Summer Festival, Lui (vice president) and Laplus.

Any mineral on Minecraft has depth levels of spawn. One of the hardest to find out is diamond, where you need to be at last -60 deep into the ground. Neko Neko, however has already dug everything to 64, in other words, there's no diamonds.

​@@imba1426 -54 is pretty much the lowest depth you can get to before you start running into bedrock blocks that mark the actual bottom of the world, which is why it's considered the optimal depth to mine diamonds at since their spawn rate increases the deeper down you are. You don't really need to dig lower than that because chances are solid you'd only get a couple more layers deep before you hit bedrock anyway.
