This song has another name - "Stepan Razin's Dream". Stepan Razin lived in the 17th century and led a detachment of Cossacks who rebelled against the Russian tsar. The rebellion was suppressed, and Razin himself was handed over to the authorities by his own associates. Thus, Stepan Razin's dream is a prediction about his tragic end - he was executed in Moscow, on Red Square. Yesaul, who solved his dream, is just the traitor who will betray him to his enemies. By the way, Pelageya stands approximately at the place where Razin was executed.
