Have a Catch 100 and agree that tracking is not great. Common complaint in YT reviews. At this price point though, hard to excel at both tracking and stability. I opted to avoid flipping and deal with the mediocre tracking. Like you, dont fish much big water with it. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the review and helpful video. I got excited seeing your Pelican Classic 100 out on the water! I just ordered one for me through Pelican on Amazon. Free shipping, too. Ironically, it was out of stock for a couple weeks and then I bought it for $574, but when I went back to check it a few days later to see if it had shipped, the price had gone up to $599! Anyway, it's my first kayak and I chose it because I want to learn how to fish from a kayak and I liked the stability and width and front roominess since I plan to bring my dog along, too. And of course, it was in my budget and light enough to load onto my flatbed truck by myself. I want to do recreational kayaking, too, since I work a high stress, physical job, so I plan to bring along some comfort items like a cooler, towel, stuff to swim, etc. I'd like to stow some of that in a dry bag in the hatch. What do you think you'll use inside the hatch to block stuff from slipping back through the kayak inside? Also, do you think you'll need a seat cushion for the back or seat. Or is the seat comfy enough on it's own?
@ReelHookSetOutdoors7 ай бұрын
Sorry for the late reply! I’ve been tied up lately. Congrats on the new yak! Sounds like you got a good deal. I wouldn’t worry about a seat cushion. I think it’s very comfortable, but you’ll have to test it and see if you like it. I figured out that you can buy drop in hatches for the front that act as a dry bag on Amazon. Not 100% sure which ones fit, I still need to do some research. I’ll probably get one of those, but I’ve also heard of people using foam and/or pool noodles to block it off. I think either would work if you have enough and prop it up at the right angle. Hopefully you like it, I sure do. Thanks for watching!

Great looking ride for a yak you can throw on the top of a car. Looks fairly tough. Im impressed with the stability of it. Nice little bass. New subb to the channel, from NJ. I am excited to see you land some bass in that ride.

Have you had this out in more gnarly weather? Where I live (mountains, this town is famous for its wind) it can get nasty in a heartbeat. I actually got caught in a big wind storm last week in my Ascend H10 and ended up going for a swim because I couldn't stop paddling long enough to bail, but it was keep paddling and taking on water or get beaten up on a rock levee. I wonder if this is stable enough to handle 1-2ft swells and +30mph wind. I have the H10 up for sale/trade, and one person has offered a Catch 100. I'm tempted. I like the weight, I have a bad back and my other kayak, a Lifetime Stealth, is getting to be a bit much to car top. I also like that there's nothing in the leg area, since I fly fish and don't want anything in there for the line to get caught on.
@ReelHookSetOutdoors6 ай бұрын
I’ve taken it out in 15 mph wind and it did okay. The problem is it’s lighter so it blows around easy. Bottom line though is that you need something light enough to car top. Doesn’t matter either way if you can’t get out on the water. I personally wouldn’t be comfortable in 30 mph winds with it though. I love the kayak but I’m not sponsored by pelican and won’t tell someone to use it in a situation I don’t think would be safe. If I were you, I’d find the heaviest, most stable yak you’re comfortable with and can car top. I used to live in Montana 10 minutes from the Missouri River by the way, so I get it… Oklahoma has some nasty wind too, I just do my best to get out on better days
@Brunnen_Gee6 ай бұрын
@@ReelHookSetOutdoors Thanks for the info. Yeah, that's just how the weather is here. It can be a picture perfect day, next thing you know you're being blown all over the place for twenty minutes, then it's perfect again. My Lifetime Stealth can handle it, I've ridden those out anchored several times, but the H10, being a sit in, basically a canoe, was a problem.

I was actually trying to decide between this kayak and the ascend 10T, great to know you had both, do you have a preference? Which one paddles better? I tend to prefer the quality and looks of the pelican so far. Ive never been on either in the water.
@ReelHookSetOutdoors6 ай бұрын
I’d say they paddle about the same, but in reality, the Pelican is more stable being that it’s 34” wide vs the ascend that’s 31”. You can actually feel the difference. I can stand in my pelican but couldn’t stand in the 10T. Also, the pelican is 10 pounds lighter and more durable. I 100% prefer the pelican. One thing I do miss about the 10at though is the built in hatch and cup holder that go right in front of the seat, but that’s something you could DIY on the pelican as well.

@FishingWithDummies78 I've thought about it but I think I decided not to for now. Mainly cause it's so light and easy to paddle. Eventually I'll get a bigger yak for larger bodies of water and probably put a motor on that. Plus I don't want to worry about having to register it. Not a bad idea though.

@ReelHookSetOutdoors8 ай бұрын
I don’t think so. I haven’t tried it, but I think if you could find a way to mount it in the center, you’d be fine. You’d probably need to remove the front carry handle which would be pretty easy. You’d just have to drill out the rivets. Also, you might lose access to the front hatch, but that’s not a huge deal.
