Pelikan M205 Fountain Pen - First Impressions

Got a black one with a M nib back in 2015 for about 100-120 €. Ever since it’s been my main writing pen and been using several inks: pelikan edelstein collection( mandarin orange, jade green, sapphire blue), rohrer-klingner 410 sort of purple and a CROSS blue. It’s very light and easy to maintain. I love that the nib is always wet, even if I leave it standing for longer without using, the moment it touches the paper it simply works. Never had issues with it spilling or staining , the piston mechanism is fantastic

The Pelikan M205 blue marble was my first Pelikan too. It's still one of my favorites even though I now have M400s, M600s and an M800. It's just beautiful and a great writer, nice and light to use and carry. I think you made a great choice.

I purchased my Pelikan M205 in 2012. It's my best EDC pen. I have used Parker, Waterman, Pelikan, Sheaffer, Pilot, Sailor, Lamy. The pen gives me maximum pleasure is Pelikan M205!

Hey Garry! Thanks for review on the Pelikan M205! I've been staying away from too much BUYING....but I've always wanted to try Pelikan. I gotta say...I LOVE how they make SILVER trim specifically! I'm looking forward to using it!

I own the same model with the same color acrylic. I find that I use this pen posted due to its short length. The performance of the pen is wonderful. The steel nib is not scratchy at all. It is a bit thin, the pen, overall. But, it is one of those pens that I think I will not mind the thinness because the performance is so nice. When you write with the pen, it smooths out and get wetter the longer you write with it. It is easy to clean. I think you can remove the piston. I think you will enjoy it a lot. I wish Pelikan offered the steel nib for their larger Souveran models to make them more affordable. I do own an M800, bought second hand. It is also a great pen. But the 205 is a winner for the price and performance.

I have a pelikan m205 pen. I learned that all gold or steel tips have same iridium dot on the tip.

Nice review as well as a nice introduction to Pelikan pens, though the price freaks me out, the M200s can be had here (Germany) and in continental Europe in general for as little as ~50€, I feel the price is already a third the way to a M400 which the smallest of the hyper-spiffy Souverän line Pelikans with 14°C gold nibs with fancy etching on a bicolour (unless it's a X05 series pen, then it's still 14°C gold but Rhodium plated, I have a M805 Stresemann series with a Rhodium plated 18°C nib and two M400s withe bicolour 14°C nib) nib. It feels like Pelikan ripping you a bit off, but of course it's generally significantly more expensive outside the EU - still, I don't know if I'd not feel duped getting a (awesome, I love them...still...) steel nib for the price. Still the M200s in general are very nice introductionary pens for high end piston fountain pens but I feel they should be a tad bit cheaper overseas, the M400-M1000 Souveräns are expensive anyway so the markup doesn't feel so "wrong" there. Still I'm happy you like it and hope you had fun using it in the pasr months! Best regards Raoul G. Kunz

Thanks. The main issue with the cost of pens is the "Australia" tax. Everything, not just pens, is a lot more expensive due to the extra transport, duties etc. I tend to buy most of my pens from Cult Pens in the UK or Appelboom in the Netherlands, but due to currency conversion this has become very expensive to do. The exchange rate has gone down quite substantially over the past year which makes the pens less affordable.

I bought this from Cult Pens in the UK. To buy in Australia is a lot higher price, but by combining purchases I can take advantage of free shipping from Cult Pens.

Didn’t realize these were piston filled pens. So can you tell how much ink is left on these?

Unfortunately not, That's definitely one of the downsides

@@sellerd1 Yeah, I've recently emptied it and did check that out. The ink window is so dark that it's unusable for me.
