What if you want to use a exsisting masonary chimney?

Does the vent have to be straight out the back of the stove. Or can I put an elbow in it and and send the smoke up and out a higher hole in the wall?

I need to install my pellet stove vent pipe horizontally about 11 ft across the basement. I read pros and cons mostly cons about horizontal installation. What should i do or need to know if I install it horizontally??
