Overview development progress the new bypass connecting Lebuhraya Tun Dr. Lim Chong Eu directly to Bandar Baru Ayer Itam in Penang.

New bypass from Ayer Itam to Lebuhraya Tun Dr Lim Chong EU
It is expected to cut travelling time for 40 minutes to 5 minutes during peak hours and it is toll free
This bypass total length of 5.7km
Penang's NEW BYPASS: 5 minutes to Ayer Itam (2025)
Total distance 5.7km
Grade 2.4km
Elevated 3.3km
This new bypass consist of 4 interchanges comprise Jalan Thean Teik, Jalan Bukit Gambir, Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah and Lebuhraya Tun Dr Lim Chong EU

It’s a game changer. It will change the real estate landscape just like Klang Valley. Should cancel the Penang Sentral-McCallum Station line. Instead use the budget to extend it to Ayer Itam, Paya Terubong and Tanjung Bungah. It should cover about 100% of the densely populated part of the island. More ferries frequency between the island and mainland.

Planned build one for u turn fly over near Penang bridge .If go to bayan lepas or Penang bridge, exit biside egate junction, then go through round about fly over u turn. 😊

situ mana leh expand dah.. bila ni siap,ramai akan pakai jalan highway blkg QB Mail trus ke flyover, air itam ni so kereta yg sllu pakai kek lok si akan berkurang jadi kurang sikit jem so dari highway jelutong nak ke tabung haji pon dah tak sesak jgak lepas ni mungkin sesak bila kilang depan kek lok si ( tentang jalan ) akan ada sikit jem tapi x teruk kot mintak2 la

the contractor assigned for farlim did horrible job and out from given timeframe wdym the light and gelugor are well in progress while the farlim mcm no progress at all

The contractor took a blady long, long time to come to this stage of continuous unfinished work. Since just before MCO with roadside blocking & then stopped work for months & then continues detouring of roads & blocking of junctions! The Sunshine Central Flyover was completed last year in a much, much shorter time while the snail pace of this bypass continues. This is the worst contractor job in Penang in my memory!

I believe your question is why not build tunnel instead for this new bypass right? Personally i think tunnel is surely very much higher the cost and very much more complicated. Furthermore not all area is suitable for tunnel.
