This is the music my wife and I fell in love to, and it has remained "our music" for 40 years. Love you, baby, and thank you Penguin Cafe Orchestra.

The soundtrack of our dreams, our childhood, and our individual spirit's journey. The songs of joy and fear. Nostalgia, moments of pure innocence, pure love, and everything we have felt and then learned from, playing along as each moment within our lives spirals outward. Thank-you Simon Jeffes for your teachings of gentle compassion. Fairies are dancing on the Amanitas in the forest, the birds are singing, the sun is setting and I am thankful for each day.

There is a bit of the gamelan style here. I had the fortune to stumble upon a gamelan playing at the Indonesian embassy one summer afternoon and they asked us to join. It was easy, and about as fun a a frog in a glass of milk. That I think is a taste of what it might have been like to play with PCO. Joy and whimsy.

I kind of grew up wih the penguin café, and still need it very much at significant junctures of my life. Simon Jeffes, what a STAR. He gives me a space of freedom , ease and tranquility in my "inner space", no matter what the world is doing to me in my - or their - "outer space"..
@momcat22234 жыл бұрын
Oh, KZbin...why did it take so *long* for your algorithms to bring this jewel to my attention??? What an exceptional compilation, w the most exquisite readings of works I've loved for years. My goodness, to have seen them perform back in the day... Simon was simply genius and we are all poorer for his loss.

I first heard Telephone and Rubber Band at one in the morning on the radio. Either the DJ mentioned the song title, or I was fortunate enough to hear it on CBC Radio 2, which has a log of music they play. I've been listening ever since. I picked up the record a few years later, which had a label indicating it came from the CBC archives. I wonder if the first version I heard was a digitized version from that exact record.

Saw PCO live many years ago (mid-80`s), still brilliant and ahead of its time, SJ. was a one off, totally original. As a non-musician this inspired me to try the Ukulele several years back, still play and enjoy it, alas no where near PCO standard.

Really special. Have most of their studio albums but this comilation just shows how he music really came alive when it was played in concert. True to its folk roots, I guess. Hoedown music for our times. I wish he was still around to be the M.C. I love Arthur Jeffes (his son) and the new band but it doesn't have that same power or wildness.
@parkyourdogwithchrissie15967 жыл бұрын
Yes I agree. The music is fabulously alive and I suspect it's because of Simon's drive and passion. I like the new band as well.though. Arthur is a credit to his Dad !
