Penguin Experience Tour - SeaWorld San Diego (Dec. 8, 2010)

For her birthday, Heidi and I went on the Penguin Experience Tour at SeaWorld San Diego.
From www.seaworld.com:
"Learn all about warm and cold weather penguins on this 1-hour tour. Guests will have an opportunity to go behind-the-scenes of our Penguin Encounter where they will meet an aviculturist and interact with a penguin. This is a side of SeaWorld most people never get to see."

The emperor chick has to be isolated because all the adult penguins would want to adopt her and there would be a fight and the chick would get hurt or killed in the skirmish.

These penguins may be noisy, and the Macaroni Penguin was relaxed. These birds are the superior species of the Southern Hemisphere! Even the lesser known such as Yellow eye Penguin, Magellanic Penguin, Little blue Penguin, Fiordland Penguin, Rockhopper Penguins and other species. Happy Father’s Day to everyone and Emperor Penguins too!

I'm ok with penguins in captivity because they're very happy and relaxed as opposed to real life where they're constantly stressed out about possibly being eaten by seals and orcas. That's part of why captive penguins live much longer. They're constantly on vacation 🐧😎

St Louis zoo has Emperor penguins and an even more awesome exhibit... there they have pools you can walk right up to and they even splash you. And STL zoo is FREE Admission

Probably because Emperor Penguins are all the way in Antarctica, which probably makes it pretty hard to bring them to a zoo.

that girl talking down on the gentoo penguins cheesed me off, what’s up with that shit, lol saying they’re the least Intelligent, that’s bullshit, she’s the least intelligent of any beeotch! She prolly just had a negative experience and got shat in the face by a gentoo or something. And why even say that, or judge them like that, it’s weird, seemed out of anger. is there racism among penguins? emperors are my favorite...also i feel like the emperors are standing surrounding that baby penguin because they want to steal the kid of themselves. i feel like those penguins really want to parent and a bit obsessed with it like predator zombies O_O

You’re actually right (although the racism part seems a little far fetched lol). Every chick is a magnet to bereaved adults. Their parental instincts are so strong that they fight ferociously to adopt the chick. These squabbles are brutal and often lead to the death of the chick. The barrier prevents such incidents from happening.
