Andrew Roberts is without doubt my favourite historian. History is not just the written word. It is the interpretation, the analysis, the humanising, and Andrew sees the bigger picture before giving a well rounded account.

Just finished Mr. Andrew Roberts' biography of Sir Winston Spencer-Churchill and all I can say is it was an amazing read. Roberts' command of resource and historical reference of Winston's life is without question authoritative and complete.

Andrew, please make a programme to go out on the BBC to counteract the current Indian version of Churchill that the BBC seem to prefer

Thankyou Andrew Roberts for your fine work. May you please assist me. I watched a documentary which I can't recall the name of. In it, the commentator enacted Churchill at the dinner table, speaking to a young child. He said...My dear, when the enemy comes I shall expect you to fight him with your kitchen knife... I will be grateful for your comment. Kind regards.

As for the matter of the Bengal Famine of 1943, i agree with all the factors you stated which were responsible for its occurrence however Churchill is directly responsible for exacerbating it by continuing to export grain from the famine stricken region to Europe as reserve stock for a supposed invasion of Yugoslavia which never materialised . He was largely indifferent to the suffering of the Bengalis in 1943 and began sending aid an entire year after the crisis began . Furthermore, he is recorded to have said extremely racist things about indian culture and the freedom struggle and desired that India remain a colony till the 1960s and fell out with F.D.R. over the matter. Considering all this , as an Indian, I wouldn't be proud of him but I have no problem with others who admire him. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I would also credit him for the liberation of Western Europe.
