Reminds me of the TF2 KZbinr Sketchek, a Pyro main who was very skilled and well-loved by the community, even getting a weapon (I believe it was the Axtinguisher?) named after him, Sketchek's Bequest. Faked his own death, told everyone he had an unnamed terminal illness, many community members were mournful of the loss of the great Pyro player. Then a few years later, comes back, makes an entire ARG around his coming back, makes a half-assed video telling everyone that he quit video games because they ruined his life, so he wanted to "go out with a bang." And then goes back to making Pyro videos. I believe he did technically say "I'm sorry" to those who were hurt by his actions, but I'm sorry, if you're out here making literal 2022-Riddler-style puzzles about your coming back to KZbin, and then going back to KZbin like nothing ever happened, those are *not* the actions of a person who regrets lying to thousands of people about dying of a terminal illness. I'd argue Sav's situation is even scummier because he was supposed to have died by suicide, though I guess that's kinda subjective which one is worse. Both situations are absolutely horrible though, and the fact that neither one shows real remorse for their actions, and Sav is even *proud* of it, means that both ought to have all community respect for them stripped away.

I was in a discord server with a kid who got bullied and he faked trying to kill himself and was put in the hospital and everyone in the server was super worried, people even cried. my best friend told them that it was fake and he helped the kid because he was insulted every day. Even his “little brother” (that was him) was in call with everyone and cried over himself. Only to find out about 4 days later that he faked his death. Everyone was so pissed. This does remind me: in addition to their IRL funeral plans, there's now going to be generations of people with online friends, who are going to need to figure out a plan for their online accounts after they pass away. I know that if someone I considered a true friend, but had never been able to meet in person and kept in touch with over skype chat or a discord server or something, suddenly disappeared because they died but I never learned what happened to them, that would be really freaky and especially sad, because there wouldn't even be closure or the opportunity to mourn the person, either by actually trying to travel to the funeral, or by mourning privately/online. Make sure that in addition to one of your family members or close friends or heirs/beneficiaries having a copy of your bank account/financial info, etc. to make it easier to access your accounts when they need to after you pass away,* if you have any close friends you keep in touch with primarily via the internet or social media, make sure your beneficiaries or whoever can access those accounts, too, just so they can post a general message about what's going on. (Also just generally make it clear before you die what you want to happen to your body, etc. after you die. Don't make grieving people try to suss out what you "would have wanted.") *Source: in addition to the general "death acceptance" movement/the work of Caitlin Doughty, plus my parents' experiences with my grandparents' deaths: I used to work at a help center for a 401K-type retirement plan maintained by an insurance company, and we would get calls from people's beneficiaries after they passed away, trying to access their account or even just figure out what to do with it/their next step. If they weren't listed as beneficiaries on the account, and/or couldn't answer the security questions we needed to ask to open the account, we weren't allowed to talk to them about it at all, and they would have to fill out this form and mail it in along with the actual, original death certificate (a copy was not acceptable), to keep the account secure in case this shit was somehow a scam. It was really, really sad to try to guide/have to put these people through this when a lot of them were clearly in the middle of grieving, and also trying to organize funeral/memorial services and whatever other shit needed to be done for their situation at that time. *Please get your shit in order as best you can, as soon as you can, even if you're probably not going to die for years yet.*
