As a young girl, listening to the boys talking respectively about the societal pressures of being considered attractive is very much appreciated. I have been going through some tough times lately where I can't even go to the mirror and see myself pretty because I keep comparing myself to other girls on TikTok and Instagram. I am on a social media detox right now and I feel so much better. Again, thanks for bringing this up.

There has always been societal pressures of being considered attractive, it's nothing new, it's just amplified now. You don't know what it means to go through tough times, trust me, I have a friend who would gladly switch lives if she knew this is your biggest problem. It's not just attractiveness and comparing each other in social media that is the problem, it's our generation as a whole. Young adults and teenagers sit at home and play video games, look at tiktoks and watch dumbass marvel movies, waste their lives on sitting at home, doing nothing but fart in their seats. You have no idea how difficult it is to drag anyone out of their introverted rooms to do something.

Senior in highschool here, just wanted to confirm that “social media isn’t an option” for kids anymore. 1) Instead of asking girls for their number, many guys my age ask for snapchats. 2) Since there was a whole pandemic, many people were pressured into getting Instagram and discord in order to stay in touch with friends. 3) Many students have interests in esports/ KZbin/ being a content creator of some sort. So many kids try to start their brand at a young age now. (Even though this sounds a little crazy, some of the big minecraft KZbinr started when they were our age so it makes sense).

Smallest dog barking the loudest is actually a characteristic that was bred into them by humans. People would promote calmer personalities in large dogs, but for small species we just couldn't be bothered, since they weren't a threat anyway. It was more important to promote the smallest size, not the calmest personality.

@@Kurimi13 maybe my English failed, but what I meant is that breeders prioritized the size over personality for those extremely small breds. There is no fine tuning specification tab for dogs, so you take what you get with every new generation, and you have to prioritize the traits that are the most important for you. If you want a wolf sized dog, you probably don't want it to be aggressive, so that takes priority. But for small dogs, just like for domestic cats, people aimed for the size. Your cat still wants to murder you, it just doesn't have the tools to do it.

50:00 I have to agree with kaya here, there's nothing wrong with teaching a child early on about rape and other evils. Death, sickness, and evil are just as real as squares and circles, and should be taught at an early age. I don't understand why we feel this neccessity for "shielding" the young from the realities of the world. Its why kids grow up to have dysmorphia, and depression, and paranoia, because their lives were all "santa, cookies, rainbows, smiles, sunshine, flowers, disney world" until it isn't. They have their whole life shattered at the drop of a hat when they find out that evil exists and they will probably find that out by being on the victimized end of those evil things. Those good things only make up 20-40 percent of a human being's life.

That's an L take on men not being affected by being called fat. It's such a sad double standard to perpetuate. I was called fat my entire childhood when I wasn't then gained a fuckton of weight and admittedly became overweight, and now today, I still have problems looking at myself. Even at my absolute best shape (dropped down to 165 from 260 at 5'11 and very broad shoulders and a stocky body shape) and was constantly skipping meals because I would look in the mirror and still see 260. Body dismorphia is a real thing in men, even if it's less common. I'm at 175 today and feel incredibly overweight and gross despite that being a relatively healthy weight.

They shouldnt be allowed to have one period and they should be educated to know why social media is bad. If they go behind parents back then ok fine its better than 24/7 access. I think its very important on how we all use social media and how it is a reflection of us. Its it very beneficial for many others to find groups of people that can help you? Yes but is it also a terrible due how it makes people feel as if they're not what the standard should be and are purposely adding on the dangers that happen all the time on the internet? Ive learned to not make such a big deal about most celebrity except for one that i personally love like Andrew Garfield. Ive gone outside for daily walks or just sit by like benches and listen to music, I do art and played video games that i like and ive gotten to work out where it feels like i can now do more. I still go online and use the internet for the stuff i do but i always make sure i don't open twitter or tiktok in the first 2 hours of my morning. I make sure i've watched my YT videos and more or less check up on myself and my friends. I still do have hope that at one point we could have social media to not let stuff like this to plauge us all the time but its sounds like very wishful thinking but i do think its possible, its just that we've refused to do it. Moral of the story: Have Moderation with the Internet and the Real world. Its not bad to have both but its not good to let one thing to have ALL the control in your life.

Stan Lee's last cameo was actually in a DC movie "Teen titans go to the movies" the last marvel cameo he had was "spiderman into the spiderverse" both interesting since DC was his rival for so long and spiderman is probably his most beloved character

About children, it sounds like Andrew has a child's mentality about adult life and children. When I was 5 years old, I knew what the sun was. I would talk with adults about it even then. Also I had my first child when I was around 23 years old. I had a decent job. My kids are a treasure and they are very smart. Now my children are older. Now I have free time earlier in life because they were able to become adults before I became older. Andrew's take would mean I guess you have to be old by the time your kids are old enough to take care of themselves. That's not fun.

I think saying HAES women just want to “justify eating cake all day” is an unfair straw man, and lot of the argument for it and anti-diet is set on a similar premise to the episode Charlie did on Alzheimer’s research being faulty. With diet culture causing a lot of fat bias in the Medical system. I’m not angry, I just wanted to offer a different perspective for a voice that can’t fairly represent itself on the podcast
@caius60192 жыл бұрын
Yea but its one thing for a single study to be bias, but there's countless studies, anacdotal evidence and just logic that being overweight or obese is unhealthy
@TripleXMango2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I think it’s fairly absurd for four dudes who aren’t doctors, to sit around and say with certainty that a person is or isn’t healthy. We can also blame the diet industry for the idea that you can’t be healthy and fat at the same time. Having some excess body fat is a characteristic of good health, and there are plenty of body types that look “obese” while still having perfectly fine health. I agree that we shouldn’t be encouraging obesity, but to say that Tess Holiday just wants people to eat cake all day and that she isn’t healthy is just a bad faith argument. It often seems as though the anti-fat people aren’t pro health, they are just honestly disgusted by fat, and anyone with it on their body.

27:00 It depends, that person will probably take everything you own and leave you in a cardboard box. But because he probably owns nothing except a pc, a mattress, and an xbox he threw against a wall, he would be remitted to a data collection agency that would tick off on his credit score every month he refused to pay, or simply couldn't pay.

@@Kitsuragi556 I understand your point & i don't think Kaya was wrong about the need for protecting children against the wilderness that the internet is, but imo Charlie only said so because Kaya was coming off as an overly controlling future-parent. The counter argument was benign, Charlie was just cautioning Kaya that restricting kids too much often backfires in different ways. He presented another approach to the issue- by giving kids reasonable freedom but teaching them enough to think for themselves, being skeptical & reasonable. Idk how practical any of this is tbh. Being a GOOD parent must be hard.
