It's not that they don't like each other it's the fact that they respect each other as business partners and enjoy working together. But they have little in common besides magic and skepticism. As a result of their drastically different lifestyles and interests, they rarely socialize or interact when they are not working. So it's their lack of common interests that they don't socialize with each other when they're off stage.
@AirJimInCT Жыл бұрын
There are similarities to be drawn between this and how Adam and Jamie from Mythbusters see each other. They aren’t friends, they work together and enjoy their work together .
@esilva8349 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, most people you work with, you don't like. Show business or regular business. Is anyone truly freinds with everyone they work with? Its just a little shocking when people find duos aren't friends. Hell even musicians in bands rarely like eachother. Its a job, and they do it. The more surprising thing is their ages. Still kicking butt and looking good at 70. Thats the real magic.

Oh, and they also share political beliefs for the most part (right-libertarianism), though Penn is more anarchist

This is false, Penn has been quoted that he feels like Teller is his best friend (they have worked together for over 40 years), they just don’t have other common interests besides magic.

From what I’ve heard it’s not that they don’t get along, it’s more that they just don’t have much in common besides their love of magic and as a result don’t socialize much outside of their performances and practice. It’s more like a coworker that you never socialize with outside of work, you’re not friends with them but you don’t dislike them and respect them professionally and work well together.

Key word being 'when'. He didn't say they don't, never have or anything else. Kind of like a marriage, sometimes you don't like each other.

Penn has a weird thing with his public persona, he puts on the Cocky character to cover up the fact that he's actually a pretty anxious person in his heart. I've been listening to his radio shows and podcasts for 20 years now, in his heart he is one of the most kind and genuine people, but he knows he has a character he has to be to sell tickets. I was fortunate enough to spend an evening at a private event for a film premiere in Las Vegas and Penn was very kind to anyone who approached, but preferred talking to his handful of close friends that were there. And yes, Teller is always warm and talkative off stage, it's very funny that he can be "himself" around strangers so easily, and Penn seems to struggle.

@dermorzi_archiv11 ай бұрын
You misunderstood something here because the quote relates to the start of their career. Here is an important sentence direct before the quote: They teamed up not because they liked each other, but because they needed each other. This doesn't mean they don't like each other. You also hear it in the clip, he said, “And so when Teller and I don't like each other, when we're not getting along, it doesn't change much of anything.”, which not say they don't like each other it only says that this would don't change anything between both.

This shouldn’t be a shock. There’s a whole bunch of people I work with who I really like, but I wouldn’t hang out with them for the same reason. Rather it be different interest, different views, etc… it’s just yes look at the title. Cold and calculated. They are successful business men and came up with a great model for their business. Great job penn and teller. Last, if you worked with someone as much and as long as these two have would you want to hang out with them in your personal life? I don’t think so. I think if they did it would hinder things. Clock in and do work things. Clock out and you get it.
@adrienne80s5 ай бұрын
He said when they don’t get along. Meaning there are times where they don’t get along, which, I think we could safely conclude that the rest of the time they do.
@jeffburnham9156 ай бұрын
They don't hangout outside of work because they are constantly working. They spend so much time together that they don't need to spend time together on days off. Penn said they do this so that when they meet up again they are excited to see each other and not get sick of each other. Imagine working 8-12 hours with someone every day for 40 years. You really gonna call that guy on your day off and say hey come hangout?

Thats a gross misinterpretation of wjat was said. They do like each other, theyd go to each other's wedding and one day the other's funeral. Shoot they even have similar political beliefs. They are also grown adults who know how to compartmentalize disagreements. You don't stay partners longer than most marriages if they genuinely didn't like each other.

He said “when.” You’re labeling it as a consistent definitive. “WHEN we don’t like each other - as you sometimes will when you have actual relationships - that doesn’t derail what we do.” Either this is clickbait or you’re truly missing the nuance Id the statement and it’s relevance to real-world relationships.
