The 500S was made in the early 80s. The idea was that it would save on labor time-as Penn reels were hand assembled- hence the design. You can put longer screws into the cross bars and make it a bit more stable. If this spool was original to this reel it would date it to 1983 as that is the 50th anniversary edition.

Looks like the new bridge was better quality than the old one. Upgrade. Brass vs who knows what? Am I right or wrong on that assumption? Thanks again Dennis for all your hard work.

Actually the old bridge is nickel plated brass. Nicer looking but probably same quality. Unless damaged I would have kept the old bridge.

I’ve seen those Gomexus trolling reels before. They certainly look impressive. Great video Dennis! By the way, that Olympic LG 550 I thought I was getting after winning an auction on eBay is probably not going to happen. I found that the exact reel was sold back in January using the exact same photos. I have a problem I think. Always check on a reel you’re bidding on in eBay to see if it has been already sold. This has happened to me twice in the last mont and I am quite steamed about it. - Chris

It appears that the bidder on the first auction backed out on the deal. The Olympic reel was listed as a relisted auction. Unfortunately I can't see anything deeper as eBay clamped down on the feedback function.

I own one of this model and bought from Japan in mid 80s . But unfortunately there r no service facilities here in Bangladesh. Can u help with any advice?

That is a problem as the Penn support is lacking outside of the USA. I suggest you use the KZbin video to service the reel yourself (or find a friend with mechanical ability to help). The video you watched has the core elements of the service you will need to maintain the reel. Thanks for asking Dennis

That is a very good reel. It is designed for wire line trolling (SP) - You may just want the 113H2 model - The difference is in the spool - Dennis
