Penn State QB Trace McSorley
Junior 6’0 195 lbs
With Saquon Barkley off to the NFL, Penn State is counting on Trace McSorley to lead to them to the College Football Playoff.
People often compare McSorley to 2017 Heisman winner Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield. They're very similar in size & both are very good leaders. USC QB Sam Darnold, Wyoming QB Josh Allen, UCLA QB Josh Rosen & Louisville QB Lamar Jackson all joined Mayfield in the 1st round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Not every QB listed was projected to go that early heading into the season. With a big 2018 season, McSorley could do the same.

It always seems like McSorely comes alive in big primetime games. He’s not the most athletic but he’s consistent and composed when the heat is on. In the B1G championship, the Rose Bowl, against the 2 Michigans, the upset of Ohio State in Happy Valley, and most importantly the final Iowa play. ...He still needs a less-cheesy celebration though.

I am a huge PSU fan, have been for 30+ years, but like I said, he will need luck or the right GM/coach whos willing to risk it on a shorter QB. Those are exceptions to the rule.

Let's just say that while Jackson still has potential, he has not solidified his spot as a starting QB. He has a lot of work to do. Plus with Trace, the ravens get a similar QB that can run the same offense, if the situation should arise.

I think the Mayfield comps come from similar size, but I think Baker is bulkier. That's not to say that McSorley can't put some muscle on as well.

That's right. I also like the "quick" decision by PSU overall to let that kid from New Jersey who was deemed physically unfit to play keep his scholarship. PSU is already a "select" group of players. Trace showed everyone just what that means. I hope the PSU offense is unstoppable and Trace at least gets heisman consideration. He's been nothing but a winner. He's just made some big mistakes at the exact wrong time about 3 or 4 times. Hope he gets it right this year.

I think the experience takes hits from year to year but I think the talent is growing and I think the pre-season coaching is growing. It can be hard to beat records but records are not a true measure of a teams success, I believe there are still quite a few talented receivers and 2 with experience to match their predecessors.

Everyone gonna learn next season, but blows my mind how people haven't learned thus far already.

Receiving corp will actually be improved and I bet PSU uses a 2 back offense alot more next year as well as Tommy Stephens in the slot. Lots of motion in the backfield pre-snap. PSU doesn't lose anything over last year using Stephens in replacement for Gesicki for the short passing game. Gesicki was actually "timid" on the shovel pass, which PSU used often. Tommy Stephens is an improvement over Gesicki in that one aspect. Too much speed in the PSU backfield this year. Trace gonna have a blast!

People said it would be hard for him to be successful without Godwin after the year before last. He had no problem. I don't think losing Hamilton will hurt much, PSU recruiting Justin Shorter who is 5 stars, highest ranked WR in the nation. They also have guys like Juwan Johnson and Deandre Thompkins who will step up for McSorley.

Denver Fan Michigan state was about a massive rainstorm that delayed the game for 7 and 1/2 hours on the road and the Iowa game, they gained almost 600 yards, but couldn't convert in the red zone. PSU just about all of their OL back, a really good WR group and they have a former 5 star recruit in Miles Sanders who will start and Ricky Slade is also a highly recruited RB. They'll be fine offensively. Usually when a team has an successful experienced QB like McSorley, that offense is usually really good.
