In 2014 when people were interviewing Destinee Hooker she said that this match still haunted her, even with all of her medals for her national team. So inspiring

This game has got to be ONE of the best NCAA championship games. Watching this game made me wonder why the U.S. does NOT have an INDOOR professional league. I know there was one in the past and did not last. However, it is worth another shot. I think it can work now.

To be down 0-2 and win the game is awesome and goes to show what a tough and talented team PSU is and still are. This is by far the best match I seen on tv. This is how a #1 and #2 teams should play for all the marbles! What a game!!!
@tboynew13 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the memory. Might be the greatest single match I've ever seen in 45 years of watching sports on TV. Both teams were superbly talented and played their hearts out -- a number of players probably played the match of their lives that night. I was a little sorry there could only be one winner at the end because both teams richly deserved it.
@ochada1313 жыл бұрын
5:24 Kisner's dig was so insane, even the legend Karch Kiraly made an "OH!" sound. This is why she is my favorite libero of all time, and why I love that my jersey number is 19. Other great digs at 0:46 and 1:01. D'Errico is also fantastic, covering all of Hooker's tips, and she and Roberta Holehouse were the best liberos of Penn State. Great game all around, thanks to the liberos and defensive specialists.
@MrGbremer13 жыл бұрын
This match showcased why Penn State won 4 straight titles. Sure they had the heavy hitters but they also had VERY STRONG liberos and defensive specialists that allowed those hitters to get their opportunities. Goes to show you that defense wins championships!

I can't count how many times I've watched volleyball from 10-15 years ago and said, "you just don't see this any more because of all the rule changes." All of the girls that played this final definitely showed that volleyball is a lot more than being tall and powerful.

The speed that these setters brought to this match is what put these two teams in the finals that year.

Let's not lose sight of what's most important here. With all due respect to Hooker, who is an excellent volley-baller, Penn State came back from a 0-2 deficit and ran the table for a 3rd straight national championship. That is an AWESOME achievement for ANY NCAA school to accomplish, especially given the collegiate volleyball talent on both the men's and women's teams in this country. Outstanding, Lady Lions. You've mad the whole Nittany Nation super proud. WE ARE-PENN STATE!

I'm going out for volleyball at my high school, now that I can do sports and don't have to babysit after school. I haven't touched a volleyball in awhile, and want to do varsity since ill be a senior in the fall. I'm probably going to buy a volleyball over the summer, and do some basics, and hopefully find a net somewhere and practice my serves. I want to learn how to do a stronger overhand since the one I do now is so sloppy and inconsistent. Watching this, makes me feel amateurish. >.> Tips?

@volleyballfanatic1 I beg your pardon! Megan Hodge and Alisha Glass were sophomores when Penn State started their back-to back-to back championship streak. Who's to say next year's team can't or won't do the same? Winner focus on what they WANT, not what they don't want. Living in Austin, I got SERIOUS braggin' rights on these Longhorns, and you better believe they're still talking about this loss. Fight On, State! For the Glory!
@808aaq14 жыл бұрын
Wished Texas won but exiting how Penn St. came back from 2-0 to win in five! Texas had an amazing team with a lot of talented seniors...they really gave Penn St. a run for it...every point was a battle...could u imagine if Texas won 3-0...that couldn't happen...too easy! Would be boring in fact but that would go to show why Penn St. is the champion. This game had everything that a title match should be...
@spashley1021014 жыл бұрын
some people may think that penn state will lose its fire next year, but i beg to differ. the new freshmen that are coming in 2010 are amazing players. i believe that the BIGGEST loss of penn is not necessarily Megan, but Alisha. the new girls coming in can hit with the best of them, but its whether or not Marika Racibarskas (Soph) or Mikinzie Moydell (Fresh) will be able to keep up setting wise at this level.

@livbgluvbg1234 always try to see where your opponents are and play into the holes in the defense. I had success varying my serves from short in the middle to long into the two back corners. that way they don't know what to expect :) takes a bit of practice of course. also try to always let others know when you're going for the ball, helps to avoid confusion and the ball dropping between two players. hope it helps don't know how experienced you are already but if you have questions just ask
@Littlemissxoxo13 жыл бұрын
penn state are concentrated more on their defense. they should be more agressive on their spike attacks. tho texas lost, they had a really strong strikes going through :] all in all a good game

@kalookakoo5 practice makes perfect. i've been playing 10+ years and believe me, when i began, anytime my hand touched the ball, it went everywhere but where i wanted it to go. spend as much time as you can doing basics like you said because once you get that down, everything will slowly fall into place. don't rush yourself because that'll cause you to be sloppy and slow your progress. best of luck to you :)

I never heard of "athletic sportsmanship" before. She actually just tries getting her team fired up, Dorton is the one flaying her body all over the court every point. None the less though Dorton is a good player and will be one of the ones to watch in up coming years, btw Hooker out hit everybody on that court that night.
