Hi everyone! Unfortunately this video has recently been claimed by CBS and they’ve blocked it in 90% of countries, so if you got here via VPN that’s what happened. Penn’s always been quite forward about how he’s okay with people posting their stuff online but I guess CBS disagrees? I cba disputing it. Exposing the trick is just showing off their mastery of the art and their skill and technique to be appreciated, I personally like it since it doesn't insult the audiences intelligence but it still gets you to think, also Teller does that final trick at the end which was the punchline, so not everything is revealed.

What I love about this trick is that there's really no "magical effect." Teller takes out and lights a cigarette. I figured out how Teller did the lemon trick. When he turns to show the audience that the red ball is in his right hand, he takes a lemon out of his suit pocket and palms it in his left hand. When he drops the ball into his left hand, it is above the lemon. He then tosses the lemon into his right hand at the end, palming the ball and ditching it in his pocket. If you pause at around 1:57, you can see the lemon drop into his hand Hope this helps

That was so, so clever. Moments later, Penn describes "misdirection", while Teller points. And it seems, after close inspection, that Teller isn't actually doing anything other than pointing. So it's like super-misdirection. They misdirect our attention not from a specific point on the screen, but from a specific point in time. The more strongly we are focusing, the less time we can focus for. If we know exactly when to do it, we might catch it. But Penn establishes that we can trust him to tell us when to really pay attention, and when it's safe to let our guard down. Bringing it up _after_ the fact is a bit of a flex. I love it. These two are such fantastic showmen. And I just love how the "effect", if you're not paying attention to the illusion, isn't some impressive thing. He stomped out a cigarette and lit a new one, it seems. Nothing spectacular or out of the ordinary.

Penn will be the first to admit Teller is the magical genius of the duo. Penn has said as much over and over in interviews. Teller's silence comes from performing in front of rowdy audiences. He found that by not speaking the hecklers would eventually shut up and pay attention to the performance.
@SRN_RL8 жыл бұрын
Penn would agree with you but I think he definitely serves a purpose in the duo. He's the charismatic one (lol, most of the time) and makes the show much more engaging. He does a lot more of the physical feats too (juggling broken bottles, etc.)

+Sieran the Fox Oh yes... Maybe, maybe Penn never did any magical trick at all... I'd have to check all the footage for that and it's a strong claim. Penn refers to himself as "Carny Trash" and, when asked, says he's a juggler. Penn is good in his own right and certainly does "magic" as well, but Teller is in a class by himself when it comes to sleight of hand and illusions. Penn is an excellent front man and stage presence. I mean, what better misdirection could a quiet, 5'9" magician have than a loud 6'6" partner???

Penn: "This is not intended to glorify smoking" Me, a non smoker: now i feel like smoking two packs a day
@yv3346 жыл бұрын
I love how beautiful this trick is. Just the combination of the smoke, the music and just how fluid it is makes the trick wonderful to watch. Another trick of Teller's that I'd love to see a full video of it Teller's rose trick, it just has this weird gory sense of beauty to it, but I've never found a full recording of it.

Thanks for sharing this amazing and well rehearsed act. The hard work is evident :) 3:30- Take the fake thumb/Thumb Cover out of the left pocket 3:33- Distraction/Miss-direction showing cigarette so that the audience pay attention on cigarette and not the thumb cover he is holding in left hand. 3:34- put off the cigarette pressing it against the thumb cover filled with water. 3:35- wear the thumb cover on the right hand thumb, which is visible in video 3:36- exhale the smoke out of the mouth which was inhaled in the last puff, making it look like as if the smoke is coming from the hand. 3:39- Thumb cover visible on right hand thumb :P

The first palming with the red ball was so good that even in slow-mo I can't see it! It gives the perfect impression that if the red ball had remained in his right hand it would have fallen in the ground! I guess he made the other ones more obviously on purpose

sitting 30 feet away in the audience you wouldn't be able to notice the red ball or fake thumb... you wouldn't even be able to notice if you couldn't play it back. Also Teller silent act such as Tom and Jerry gives you a comical point of view of his funny personality, which throws you off your game to help better give you the illusion.
