Pennineway 2022/Hiking with our dog

Eind augustus 2022 hebben wij het grootste deel van de Pennine way in Noord Engeland gelopen samen met onze Springer Spaniel Dora. We zijn begonnen in Gargrave aan het begin van de Yorkshire dales tot aan het officiele eindpunt in Kirk Yetholm in Schotland.

Thank you for this wonderful video! I'm planning to walk solo with my Labrador this September. I have so many questions! 1) do you have a kit list? 2) were there a lot of fence crossings where you had to lift your dog? 3) how long did the route take you? We're looking at 20 days 4) any recommendations for accommodation? 5) any lessons or wisdom to share?

I will try... 1: For the dog a long belt that you wear around your hip is very useful. Other than that, we only had a large lightweight towel for her to dry off and sleep on. For food we took no more than 1 kilo dryfood. When it ran out, we bought a new portion from other dog owners. Often, we just got it. For the road, we bought small cans and treats. And...a raincoat for the dog is very important. We didn't had one on the pennineway but now she has a raincoat for long walks in the rain. 2: Maybe at Cauldron Snout. That's a nasty climb. Our Dora did it with difficulty. Other than that, we didn't see any problems. 3: We started at Gargrave and walked to Kirk Yetholm in 18 days. But we cut the long stages in half by wild camping. 4: Most of the time we camped at campsites and in the wild. In Hawes and Dalston there are nice places to take a hotel. 5. Your dog will love it. Teach the dog how to handle sheep, because there are a lot of them, so the dog doesn't have to be on a leash all the time. Have fun!
