I'm trying to get my dad to pull the 540 out of our 70 nova and swap it. I just think at his age, w/the issues he has, having a car that he can get in, start and drive would be a lot more practical than the car sitting another 5-6yrs...When my N/A 403" LS put down more to the wheels in my 4th gen than a solid roller 540, I was sold! And that was daily driven for nearly 3yrs.! Now I'm building a iron 408 with a t4 85/96. I hope that's enough turbo, as I'm trying to keep my a/c! Love the channel, love the cars man!

@Coyote4life not really, when I can make the same power out of a ~400c.i LS with a streetable hydraulic roller, maybe a little less cam, more vacuum, so I'm able to run the air, but it'll be something he can get in, hit the key and drive it. He has really bad back and neck problems, some other health issues where the heat just kills him... Believe me, that Dart block 540 has a ton of potential, but just not the potential that I'm looking for. Just tryin to get an old man back in a old car... I know it tears him up, as he's since sold the Nova, but he's always looking... As for my Camaro, it'll make every bit of 1200hp turned up. Ended up with a FIS 91/102 T4... should be a fun daily driver!

One more question, what exhaust manifolds are you using? Exhaust diameter( to the turbo and exiting the turbo)?
@HorsepowerDepot2 жыл бұрын
So its got a 5gen camaro manifold on the drivers side, LS4 Monte Carlo SS front manifold on the passenger side, The drivers manifold connects to the passenger manifold behind the engine. I made this kit before hooker came out with their log manifold, mine looks the exact same. 2 1/4 to connect the drivers side to the passenger side behind the engine, then 2 1/2 from the passenger manifold to the turbo.

@Horsepower Depot Thanks for the reply! I've got the sense that a lot of guys won't reveal the work or who performs the work that goes into the carburetors in FAST class. Infact, there is not much information out there at all about the work and ingenuity that goes into the FAST cars in general. It would be really interesting to see a video of what work goes into the carburetors and fuel systems aside from the basics. More technical information would be awesome. FAST is a class full of trickery, and that's what I love about it!

Nah, the old one wasn’t hurt. That’s what always happens to stock LS under big boost eventually. Especially at the track. Hitting it at the track is a whole different world than a dyno. It’s just a matter how how long it’ll last. A set of rods and pistons and you can beat on them for a long time. I don’t understand why so many guys insist on keeping the stock rods and pistons.

It will last forever at this power level. We’re going on 4 years in the Blue LTD with a 4.8. The last number we made on the dyno in that car was 1125 horsepower. 700hp bbc would be cool. But you couldn’t just turn it up to make 900-1000 like you could with a turbo LS.

Im not sure but i think you missed the point of the video 701hp at 17 pounds of boost and 17 degrees of timing from a $400 used 4.8litre with a cam and valve springs with a conservative tune is awesome power. Look i have no problem with a Big block 540 cubes NA but they are heavy and old technology and over here in Australia it would cost me around $20k or more to build a reliable 700hp 540bb NA. So for me it's a no brainer $400 or $10k I'll have the 4.8litre. Cheers Ed

WHAT'S WRONG WITH THE OLD CHEVY SMALL BLOCK? THE FACT THAT YOU CHEVY GUYS HAVE ABANDONED IT IN FAVOR OF THE LS, WHICH IS COMPLETELY BASED ON FORD DESIGNS FROM TOP TO BOTTOM IS ADMITTING THE SMALL BLOCK FORD WAS ALWAYS A SUPERIOR ENGINE TO THE CHEVY SMALL BLOCK. NOT ONE DESIGN ASPECT OF THE OLD SMALL BLOCK CHEVY LIVES IN THE LS. WHICH IS A REGURGITATED FORD 427 HIGH RISER ENGINE AKA RAISED PORT 351 WINDSOR. THE LS ARE FORD WINDSOR HEADS WITH THE RAISED PORTS FROM THE HIGH RISER GIVING THE AIRFLOW A DOWNWARD STRAIGHT FLOW INTO THE CYLINDER. WHEN IT COMES TO RACING TODAY WITH TURBO'S, SUPERCHARGERS AND NITROUS. IT WAS ALL SINGLE HANDEDLY SHAPED BY THE SMALL BLOCK FORD. EVEN THE AUTOMOBLE INDUSTRY WORLD WIDE USING POWER ADDER WAS INFLUENCED AND SHAPED BY THE SMALL BLOCK FORD. WHAT YOU CHEVY GUYS ARE DOING TODAY WAS BEING DONE BY THE FORD GUYS 30+ YEARS AGO WITH BOTH THE 302W AND THE 351W. AROUND 23 YEARS AGO ONE OF THE MAGAZINES DID A TEST ON THE FORD MEXICAN 302 H.O WHICH IS STRONGER THAN THE STARDARD 302 BECAUSE IT HAS A HIGHER NICKEL CONTENT. THEY SUPERCHARGED IT AND SHOT IT WITH NITROUS AND IT MADE 750HP. THEY TOOK IT TO THE RACE TRACK TO PURPOSELY BLOW IT AND RAN IT DOWN THE QUARTER MILES 80 TIMES AT FULL TROTTLE TO THE BLOWING POINT. THE ENGINE NEVER BLEW. WHEN THEY TOOK IT APART THE ONLY THING THEY FOUND WAS SOME CRACKING AROUND THE WEBBING OF THE MAIN JOURNALS IN THE BLOCK. EVERYTIME I SEE YOU CHEVY GUYS RAVING OVER THESE LS BUILDS. I SEE IT AS THE MOST CRIMINAL THING TO EVER HAVE HAPPENED IN THE AUTOMOTIVE RACING WORLD. TO RUN AROUND FOR DECADES YELLING CHEVY IS THE BEST AND FORD SUCKS. AND THEN TAKE YOUR LEGENDARY SMALL BLOCK CHEVY AND TOSS IT INTO THE SEA FOR A BOAT ANCHOR AND THEN COPY FORD AND BUILD A NEW V-8 ENGINE COMPLETELY BASED ON FORD DESIGNS. IF I WAS TO PUT A LS MOTOR UNDER THE HOOD, WHERE ONCE A SMALL BLOCK CHEVY LIVED, I WOULD PUT MY HEAD DOWN IN SHAME.
