Cryptid/Creature stories *are* always be more interesting than ghost stories. Unknown species of beings're always genuinely both interesting and unsettling at the same time
@christosvoskresye

I disagree. Cryptids have to play by mundane rules. If a big, hairy ape migrated from Asia to the Pacific Northwest, it would still be a creature of flesh and blood, and we know how to deal with flesh and blood. They might create fear, but not horror -- and for that matter, a tiger or grizzly bear, neither of which is a cryptid, would produce as much or more fear than most cryptids. With a good gun, we can take down a tiger, a grizzly, or in principle a Sasquatch. A ghost, on the other hand, does not play by the rules with which we are comfortably familiar.

@@christosvoskresye It gets even more interesting when the creature you mentioned acts both brutal and sentient at the same time and shocks humans on unimaginable ways. The high esteemed bullets do not work on several creatures such as skinwalkers; wendigo...etc. Meanwhile the ghosts're depicted on exclusively similiarly mundane manner.

I’m within a few miles of these woods. Tuscarora and the connecting area have always had these unsettling sinking feelings when I would traverse the woods as a kid. One time I left my home after my family and I had a fight so I followed the tracks out from a nearby town at 920 ish. I remember feeling terrified as a walked along the roads being mindful of my surroundings in case a train would come through and the area is popular with coyotes. I drifted off in my thoughts because this point in my life was emotionally exhausting for me. I looked up and could see a lightly illuminated humanoid figure but it was visibly taller even from a distance. I continued walking towards it and heard something to my side which startled me so I checked and upon refocusing on the tracks the shape was gone, no longer passing towards me. I was rather upset this night so I pressed onward but after ten minutes of walking I was again pressing towards an approaching shadowy humanoid figure, that to my shock had seemed to suddenly stop. This time it had no visible “aura” and I thought I noticed the shadowy figure start to dart towards me as a rustling repeated thud broke what had been a relatively eerily silent night stroll. My heart stopped in it’s chest as it was initially clearly standing still or so I thought. I almost thought I could make out a smile from ear to ear. I was thankfully still close enough to the nearby road I crossed at the track impasse and able to remain under lights. The area which was my initial destination had always been rumored to be haunted. Growing up it was my group of friends swim spot and I still visit it from time to time but I’ve always had the feeling of being watched just beyond the tree line of our swim spot. I’d always hear strange rustling just barely out of sight. It’ll be a while before I go back to that spot though. Thinking about it still terrifies me.

I had a dream last night that I took a trip to Pennsylvania for the nature and the historical landmarks. While hiking with some friends, we came across the bottom of a large cliff. As we admired the formidable peak, a man stepped out from the rock and tree limbs. But, he had long very firm, almost woodlike hair, with barkish skin and a brownish-gray complexion. As I stared in awwe, one of my friends pointed up saying "look". I gazed up to see hundreds of them, all blending into the rock and the woodwork like chameleons. I realized throughout my dream they were a lost people, who had evolved to living in the trees. And developed there bark like skin, and the brownish complexion as a means of survival. As soon as I woke up, I searched "Tree people" to see what I could find. (I remember specifically in my dream the state was Pennsylvania)... And this is what I found... Almost gave me a shudder as I came across it.

I grew up about 5 miles from here and spent many of days in tuscarora state park, I've never seen these things, but i will tell you that park has an erie silence and feeling to it, it can be super unsettling, there are certain places around here in the bush where you feel at home and there's spots that make your skin crawl for reasons you can't explain.

Well written and very cool. The only thing I would maybe change is that I would have made them have light colored fur. Because these things couldn't live in Pennsylvania in the winter without fur. And they would be seen way too much if they were to migrate south for the winter because they'd have to keep coming out of he trees and their white color would for sure give them away. Unless you were to make them winter cave creatures who somehow hibernate in big groups to keep warm in the winter or something. The group wpuld allow them to keep each other warm kind of like penguin and they could shift spaces so no one had to be on the outside of the group for very long. Thats my contribution. But this was cool as it could kind of be a companion piece to the SAR series written so well by, I forget the woman's name. It coukd help explain people's remains being found really high in the trees and maybe account for some if the supposed rake creature sightings. Very cool!!
