I remember freight train on the horseshoe curve with to i1 decapod on the front end and two more pushing. That was real railroading.

This is the longest I've ever watched a 3-rail O layout video due to its otherwise A1 excellent scenic and sonic quality which are astoundingly realistic !!..I'll just never get why serious modelers will still go 3-rail..7:26 Even the figures are well done (usually they're too shiny with bad proportioned)... Nice camera work, too !!

It is the curse of Lionel. All the manufacturers of beautiful scale locomotives and scale Rolling Stock curse themselves to be compatible toy trains of the 1950s. I could run my Marx trains on that layout because of the third rail but I don't think you would want me to. All of the toy train gauges number 1 number 2 number 0 and standard gauge all used marklins design of three rail track. All scale railroads regardless of scale used to rail normal track. AC Gilbert took the plunge and made to rail AC American Flyer trains after World War II that were not compatible with their pre-war 3-rail 0 gauge counterparts. Lionel could have done the same but then all of the pre-war trains would not be compatible with the post-war train. Let's not forget for a lot of people Lionel trains were a toy that they set up ran for a while and then took it down and put it back in the box. A lot of people just had a circle of track for going around the Christmas tree during Christmas season and that was it. There is a big difference between playing with trains on the living room floor and having a scale layout with everything correspondingly proper nothing undersized. I like the fact that Mike's train house Premier line of locomotives can be ordered with scale wheels so they can run on Scale Track but they could also run on three rail track. That makes for a versatility so you can use it on either kind of railroad.

I have always believed that it was hard to make an O Scale look right with scenery but this layout is definitely a nice size to look right. Great job on weathering and building of this layout

Love the layout! The weathering and detail is incredible! Can I ask... What did you install to get 4 chuffed per revolution in your Q2? And what paint did you use on the cab roof? Mine has a Tuscan roof. Also the sounds you installed are great! I have the same model by 3rd rail but am unsure of what system is best to install. Thanks for the video!

The Pennsylvania Railroad decapod we're also called hippos. They steamed well and they rode well up to 50 miles an hour they once had six hundred of them now there is only one. Isn't that so sad? And isn't it ironic that so many railroads that Encompass diesel ization we're broke 10 years later. Broke railroads like the New York Ontario and Western and the Central Railroad of New Jersey were broke but we're giving sweetheart deals we able to acquire brand new diesel locomotive. Did not help either one. I wish everything was powered by coal nowadays we could tell the Arabs to go f themselves and they would have a sign saying will sell oil for food. Steam lasted forever if you took care of it.

A very artistic scenic layout but 3 rail is not O scale. O scale is 2 rail DC.

I've never heard that one before. O Scale is a size of modeling that is centered around a scale that's 2 times the size of HO ( which means half-O.) It has been originally scaled at 1/4 inch to one foot, or 1:48 or in Europe, 1:43.5 operating on track that is gauged at 1 and 1/4 inches. The power or amount of rails has nothing to do with it. Little Engines made a very nice line of O scale live steam that could run on O scale 3 rail track. Lionel makes a line of O scale models that operate on 3 rail, AC power.

@@ardyzink7928 yes it does to rail is proper and true. 0 scale is two rail d.c.. 0 gauge is 3-rail AC . A high rail layout means 0 scale detailing and proportions but using better grades of 3 rail track. Take a look at an 0 scale coupler and a Lionel compatible coupler you will see how big a difference there is. Marklin in Germany invented the 3 rail track system which states still use today even in ho. The other toy train manufacturers who had trains in number one scale, number to scale, Lionel called his trains standard gauge and patented that designation so the other manufacturers that made trains in that size had to call them wide gauge instead. Before World War II many Club layout had outside third rail to power their trains. Both Steam and diesel locomotive would have third rail shoes to pick up the current. You could use Lionel trucks because you would not cause a short circuit. Lionel gg1 Electric can run off the overhead wire and run on two rails like a trolley car. Similar but different and not compatible. DC train use DCCC control and 3-rail AC trains use proto3 and d c c whereas Lionel uses TMCC Legacy and vision to remotely control their 3-rail trains

You're absolutely right. 0 scale is two rail d.c. 0 gauge is 3-rail AC . People incorrectly use the terms interchangeably when they are not.
