It’s interesting that when I see a new fountain pen, I also ask myself if I need it. I always know the answer is “no”, and then I buy it anyway.

Me too. I’ve been known to buy one because I got new ink and don’t want to clean another pen because they’re all full. It’s a sickness.

I have a Jinhao 80 with a Lamy 1.1 nib. My favourite daily carry pen.

Really wish jinhao would release some medium, broad and stub nibs for these and the x159!

The A1 saved me a lot of money... :-D I ordered one a while ago because I was on the fence for a Pilot VP. Within a few weeks, I found out that it's absolutely not my thing -- too often, I throw my pens into some bag on the go, and I am just too nervous for the capless models to "open" when bumping around in there. Still, I'll be curious about the detailed weight/balance comparison.

A writing comparison would have been good too.

I watch all your videos Paulo, though I wasn't interested on this brands, it's very interesting and worthy that you got them specially for those who wish to try the clip of the Vanishing. There's so much to compare in this 3 models that I congratulate you for a brilliant purchase. Thank you 😎

With A1 and X1 (copy of Montblanc Boheme), Moonman have proved that they’re the pioneers in making retractable fountain pen copies ! Hope to see a copy of Dailog CC soon !!

Interesting. I am tempted by the A1 for the clipless option, but the lack of any nib broader than a Fine puts me off.

It is amazing how fast these Chinese pens come out.

Agreed, though they have had plenty of time to copy a Lamy 2000. The best example was the Jinhao 85 (copy of new Parker 51) which actually appeared before Parker were ready to release the 51.

Hi Paulo. I am interested in your opinion about the Jinhao 80 because I ordered one from China a few days ago. I wish Jinhao had copied the nib and section of the Lamy 2000. A semi-hooded steel nib would have been quite nice. I agree with your comments about piston fillers. The model 80 and X159 should have been designed as piston fillers. After all, Wing Sung have used a piston filler system on a few of their pens and still managed to keep the price low. I wish Jinhao would look into this. The Majohn A1 is a pen that has interested me as well. I don't own one but I would prefer the version without a clip. I believe the clipless version would be more comfortable to hold and I never use a clip anyway. I hope you are coping with this terrible heatwave in Europe at the moment. This is far hotter than we are used to in the UK. I can't imagine how hot it feels in your country. Stay safe.

Jinhao 80 should be judged on its own. They did a lot of departures from Lamy 2000, which, in my opinion, are improvements. They could easily make some slight design changes (for one, styles of the ends and of the clip) as well. It remains to be seen how the pen holds in the long run, but they made a good shot at being one of the best writing instruments. They managed to almost stand on the shoulders of the giant.

Very interesting ,Chinese FP will dictate their positions within other manufacturers sometime for sure. Spprecite your approach towards these Pens & waiting for your writing samples ( with comparisons between these obvious knock off & authentic with same nib sizes and ink please ). One more question Paulo please,if I want to go for these chines Pens would advise ebay rather amazon (price wise and delivery quality ) ..??

This was just an unboxing. The actual review and writing samples usually comes later on another video.

However much against copyright and trademark conventions these Chinese lookalikes are, they signal that 1. the originals can be improved pricewise, and 2. maybe, designwise.
