For more on Anne Boleyn watch our other video of her childhood home at Hever Castle kzbin.info/www/bejne/qKPJamWAhqlor7c *Corrections* I said Demi-Luned which should have been Demi-Lune. Also, we said that a "Second First Floor Great Hall" was built. This would have been a ground-floor Hall the same size as the Barons Hall. The Upper rooms were the ones created later to become the Elizabeth Room and the Tapestry Room. I said Henry VIII died in 1536 but that was Anne Boleyn Henry died in 1547. Sorry for any confusion. Been visiting Penshurst Place for 50 years. It holds a very special place in my heart and that of my family. I used to love the old tea room within the house, which had a multitude of copper jelly molds and pans etc on the wall. You really must go back to see the toy museum. It’s absolutely wonderful and is probably one of the reasons that I have been a miniaturist all my adult life 💕

I think Penshurst is the only important “stately home” around in Tudor times that still retains its central fireplace, most had new wall fireplaces with chimneys installed over the later centuries. This hall is used a lit in films. I think the Wolfhall scene with Cromwell and Norfolk talking at an open fire was probably shot here.

I think this has to be one of your best productions Simon! The History was so interesting and flowed beautifully. My husband says how you tie it all together, the stills with video is pure craftsmanship and takes a huge amount of effort. Does look like a beautiful place & we would have def gone there had I known about it when we were in Kent. But, at least I can enjoy it now, as far away as I am in Tasmania. 2 gardens worth a visit - Hestercombe in Somerset near Taunton & it's not far from the Quantocks & coast should you fancy a weekend away, then in S Devon at Kingswear, another Gertrude Jekyll & Lutyens delight with an amazing series of gardens falling over the cliffs, although it's NT, so I'm not sure filming is an option... Overbecks near Salcombe, that's NT :( The Garden House at Buckland Monachorum is worth a visit & used to have a good cafe. That's private I believe, oh yes, & down in Cornwall, we did visit Trerice, Nr Newquay, but that's NT, too... Oh dear! Anyway - Happy Travels and thanks for taking us to all these lovely places - I think it made hubby very home sick...
