My 5 would look like this: 1) Pilot Custom Heritage 92 - Similar to the Custom 74 but a piston filler with a flat top and bottom. This pen has always been loaded with Tsuki-yo and probably always will (unless the new Iroshizuku Rikka takes its spot). The FM line width is perfect and the bounciness of that nib is just such a joy. If I were absolutely forced to go down to one pen, this is it. 2) Lamy 2000 - It took a tiny bit of adjustment for me to get used to the 2000's sweet spot but now that I have, this pen is just an absolute delight to write with. I understand why the 2000 is a legend in the fountain pen community and I'll probably get more in other nib sizes at some point. Very nearly pulled the trigger on the green version that came out this year but couldn't justify the cost premium. Might be regretting that a bit now, LOL. I've had a few different inks in here but I've settled on Lamy Cliff as the standard for this pen. Should probably pick up a few more bottles of that before it disappears. 3) Gravitas Ultemate Vac Filler - This was a Black Friday pick-up and man, am I glad I did. This pen has rocketed up my list of pens I reach for consistently. I've always wanted to try an Ultem pen because of the unique properties of the material. Unfortunately, I just don't like the look of most Ultem pens. This is different. The polished Ultem paired with Titanium looks super nice and the pen is a delight to use. So far I've only filled it twice and both times it was with Colorverse Bow Shock. Might swap that out next fill for something a little better behaved but maybe not, too. It's a nice sheener in the style of Nitrogen without going to 11 like Nitrogen does. 4) BENU Euphoria Jazz - I had kind of written off BENU as too over the top for me but then Drew Brown did a video about them and it made me take a second look. I liked the Jazz model and decided to give it a try. Boy, am I glad I did. What a delight to write with! This one gets ink changed fairly regularly but currently has Shitoshito in it. 5) TWSBI Precision Man, the fifth slot was tough. There are soooooo many pens that I could put in here without thinking twice. I'm really glad this is only a thought exercise because I couldn't do 5. I just couldn't. 10, maybe. 5, no. But, for the purpose of the thought exercise, I'll go with the Precision. It's an oft overlooked TWSBI model but there's a solidness to it that you don't get in the other TWSBI models. The custom architect grind was done with intent for this pen's use as my main work pen. I use it for small block print which works well in my work environment. With care, the nib can be used reversed for a really, really, really fine line, too. Even used in standard orientation, it's very fine and can be used even with the cheapest of copy papers. It's loaded with Kiri-same for now. Thank goodness the pen is an ink sipper because Kiri-same is one of the inks that Pilot axed to make way for Rikka, To-ro and Syun-gyo and I only have two bottles of it. Note to Pilot: You *don't* have to discontinue old inks to bring out new inks. Please make note of that and bring back Ina-ho and Kiri-same post haste! Kthxbye! Meanwhile, didn't even know that I could leave a supernote -- I had only ever done super chats. Can't commit to the Patreon at the moment but I do appreciate your content and am glad to see you posting again so it's nice to be able to send a little something to support the channel. Looking forward to what you bring out in 2025!

Thank you so much!!! I really appreciate that, more than you know! As for your five, they’re all solid! I’ve never used the TWSBI precision but I have used the others and they’re amazing fountain pens!! There’ll be plenty more coming in 2025!

Once a week I put four of my 15 pens into a 4-place holder and I use them all that week. It is clear to me that the most expensive pen I have the MonteVerde Turquise Special Edition gets used a lot.. then the Hongdian comes next, then a Noodler’s Ahab, and now I’m using my newest of the 15, TWISBI Eco… and having fun using them all one week at a time.

I would be best suited with a broad range of nib widths: 1. Needlepoint: Franklin-Christoph M20 2. Medium: Sailor KoP 3. Coarse (~BBB): Pilot 67 4. Stub: Pilot Parallel 4.5 5. Zoom: Good Blue L130 Hey, this a nice list!

I hope you feel well soon. I have really slowed down on my pen usage and desire to buy them. I love my pens and they are all important to me. It's taken years to be here. There are really special pens that I would love but think financially don't make sense now or I don't have a moment I want to mark with a pen. That's how I have been slowing down I think. Finding moments I want to mark with a pen. Like my 40th or buying my first home etc. anyway, love your December video challenge! Take care.

It's hard to narrow down my top 5, but these are my top 5, and a couple runner-ups: Pilot 78G (It's been my EDC for years now. It's a champ and rarely misbehaves for all I put it through.) Lamy Safari (Got this from a Secret Santa and didn't know I'd love a Safari this much, but it's one I'll gravitate towards, no matter the ink colour.) Lamy Joy (It's my "know my emotions when writing with it" pen, as you've said in your vid.) TWSBI Eco (One of the two TWSBIs I got from my family, finally understanding my hobby, and is the pen that will play well with any ink I throw at it!) Sailor Fude de Mannen (It's my newest pen, but I've got so much mileage out of it when it comes to my art. It's been such a fun tool to work with.) Runners Up: Luoshi Labyrinth (Love the look of this pen, but pairing this with ink is a little bit more a challenge for me, and it's a little heavy when posting.) Jinhao X750 (Shimmering sands pen will go with whatever ink, but isn't QUITE cracking the top 5.)

Well, here's hoping you don't end up *too* under-the-weather…at least you have Parker to cheer you on! As far as what-pens-to-keep versus what-pens-to-cast-off, I've always kept things simple by never owning more than five at any given time. Two pens I've long slated to sell off are a Pilot Custom 74 (clear, B nib), which only got inked exactly once on account of my actually not digging Broad nibs nearly as much as I thought I would…irrational exuberance at its finest. The second is a vintage Eversharp Skyline that's never quite worked right for me…I might just throw that in free for whoever buys the Custom 74. The pens that stay? I've mentioned them here before: a pair of Pilot Custom 823s (Amber w/M nib, Smoke w/F nib) and a Pilot Vanishing Point (Matte Black w/F nib). These have been my go-to writers for a *long* time and a true pleasure to write with. I can't think of another pen to add, although your Custom 912 with that FA nib sounds rather tempting.

Nice video. Interesting to see that my remaining 50ish pens are all really loved and used and wouldn’t want to let go of no more than 10 of them. There are duplicate pen bodies, but I would keep all the nibs so they could be interchanged as desired. Just 5 would be impossible.

Franklin Christoph Models 03 & 31 are my go to and to keep pens about 5-7 of them and I eyedropper all of them. I don’t use my others and should sell others. I would likely keep 15. I’m not buying new pens at this time. Your extreme minimalist approach is admirable and inspirational.

Narrowing down to a top 5, means leaving off so many favorites. 1. Sailor Pro Gear Russian Blue - my friends picked it up in Japan for me, and is a memento of my cat Zelda 2. Pilot VP Raden Galaxy - my grail pen for nearly a decade before I could afford it 3. Visconti Opera Master Luna - bought it to celebrate work milestone, then had nib ground at SF Pen show to broad cursive italic 4. Benu Euphoria Vodka on the Rocks - won it in a contest and the sparkle brings me joy (honorable mention would be the hand-painted World Dracula Day) 5. Franklin-Christoph Model 31 Antique glass med cursive italic, picked up at my first SF Pen Show Near misses: Aurora Luce Blue fine flex, Pelikan m600 vibrant orange, Lamy Safari Dark Lilac, Platinum Century 3776 Carnelian Red, Vanness Pinnacle Wild Blackberry w/ custom nib grind

Choosing 5 out of my 50+? That's really tough. 1. Pelikan M1000 Raden Black Infinity. It writes superb and it's just gorgeous. 2. Pelikan M400 White Tortoise. It's a gift from my husband AND it beautiful. 3. Pilot Custom 743. I bought it in Tokyo while on holiday in Japan. The soft medium nib was tuned by the shop owner to my liking and it writes phenomenal. 4. TWSBI ECO Glow Green. It's a solid writer, easy to clean and, well, glows green in the dark. 🙂 5. Pilot Kaküno. I like the feeling of the pen. I love the click of the snap cap. And it has absolutely no problems with Platinum Carbon Black. I can take it even after a few weeks and it writes instantly.

Woah! I have a tonne of pens- and a lot of them a super cheap and lame. Of my select few I would keep... Pilot custom 823 M nib. It was cracked and the vacuum stopped working and a friend fixed it. It was awesome. I WOULD have been my twsbi diamond 580 in iris M nib BUT one of my kids (I'm a teacher) in the last week of the term... soooo love that for me. I would pick a lamy because you can swap out the nibs and they're really customisable. I would struggle between the Cherry or the Fiery... probably end up going for the Fiery MAYBE only cause that grip section is really cool. Then I would have to keep my Pelakan 140 because... idk. I wanted it for a really long time and it works so well... but wow. How to even choose, really. I could never ACTUALLY pare down.

But I think: Top 10: TWSBI Diamond 580 EF Benu Talisman Edelweiss F Pilot Explorer M Sailor Pro Gear MF Sailor Pro Gear Slim M Esterbrook Estie Journaler Pilot 912 FA TWSBI Eco M Woodshed Pen Co stub. Sooo smooth TWSBI Swipe Architect custom grind Honorable: Lamy Safari If I have to do a Top 5, it’s for Survival Purposes and 2 sentimental pens: TWSBI Diamond 580 EF. Sketching fine lines and capacity, changeable nib). Benu Talisman F for shimmer inks. Pilot Explorer M Every day ease and comfort, even on cheap paper Sailor Pro Gear MF (sentimental) Esterbrook Estie Journ. Sentimental. While I love my Pilot 912 FA, it’s a wet writer, and so I don’t use it a lot, more for fun and journal spreads.

I mean, after all your cat's name is Parker. I have a jinhao 996 tan with tiger stripes and swapped a nib from a kannan cat pen that has a Lazer etched cat face on it. It is tuned perfectly, I call it Niko after our cat who recently passed away. Long story even longer I would rather part with my pilot custom urushi in Vermillion than part with my little Niko.
