I have a few of these and I agree, this is a cheap must have lens that is really underrated.

I agree. I enjoy mine a lot. Even on the native Practika TL1000 body, it is fun to shoot.

Got mine 'free' on the front of my fathers Praktica that was left to me when he passed away. Thanks Dad. I have this sitting next to the Helios 44-2 that has been on my old Zenit-E from the 70's. Both are great fun on my OM-D E-M10 using a K&F adaptor. Great video, thanks, I did some garden shots as well:)

These heirlooms are so cool as opposed to a broken clock on a mantelpiece, or a tie or a walking stick! K&f Adapters are gr8.

Cheap Vintage Glass. Can't go wrong hey. Haven't tried this one yet myself, but looks interesting so will keep an eye out for sure. Liking that close focus distance. Great video, an informative and pleasurable watch.

love the swirly bokeh of this lens! i own the Carl Zeiss Pancolar 50/2 and the Yashica Yashinon DS 50/1.9 which are also both swirl monsters for less than 100$!
@danienelphoto Жыл бұрын
It has a pleasing swirl, indeed. Not as much as my Helios 44-M, but enough. I am still amazed at how affordable some amazing pieces of glass can be. Testing a Mamiya Sekor SX 100mm F2.8 currently... so good! (No swirl, though!)

the Pancolar 50mmf2 renders very similar to the best copies of the Pentacon 50mmf1.8.

I hsve never tried the Pancolor... in fact, there are so many I haven't tried!!

It is a beautiful lens honestly. It creates beautiful vintage imaging.. I saw it on eBay for 30£, so I thought about getting a review of it.. I think I'm going to get one of these for my 750D to play around 😊

@@danienelphoto I've just got it and its in great condition. Got one question though, I've got the exact same lens and I've bought one adaptor. But the pin its not clicked in, so aperture stays at 1.8. Which adaptor should I get to be able to control the aperture?
@danienelphoto Жыл бұрын
Oi, I am not 100% sure. The K&F M42 ones seem to work well. Maybe also check the M/A setting on the side of the lens. However, I did notice that mine has since begun giving the same issue. This is a stuck aperture issue and not a adapter issue. Here is a video I discovered that seem to offer a way of fixing it. I haven't tried,though! kzbin.info/www/bejne/bWO3n3tqms2GgKc

Yes, the flange distance of the 5D4 is actually gr8 for using vintage lenses... except PK mounts!. I used to have a 5D4. Amazing machine.

i do believe the Pentacon to be the same optical formula as the Meyer-Optik Gorlitz Oreston lens. not sure about coatings though
@danienelphoto Жыл бұрын
That is how I understood it. Coatings were "updated", but especially Soviet lenses leaned towards cheaper coatings.
@j.c.1039 ай бұрын
You are right, the optimal formula is the same. The First Pentacons 50mm f1.8 were single coated too like the Oreston, but later they got multi coatings, them they are labelled MC.

why did i read somewhere these were actually made in japan not in dresden like the Praktica it came on was.. could be wrong. its almost more interesting to think these are german lenses.

Yup, unless one has first hand experience our onformation are only as good ad the sources (internet!), but the overhelming amount of information suggest Dresden.

Tx - interesting factoid - Hanimex had some of their lenses made by Practika in Dresden and Japanese manufacturers lkke SUN. So did many other more budget lens brands. So, in a way, there is a Dresden-Japan connection.

@@danienelphoto oh wow, that is a fun tidbit. with someone who has a lot of Praktica cameras but also loves Japanese glass, i love this bit of 70s cross pollination during this complex cold war period.

Change your caption, don't write cheap because it cheap these days then it was too much pricy dream of every middle class families I have vintage camera collection like zenith, pentax, practica, yashica all my father's collection so i better know the values.

Cheap Vintage Glass is the series's name, and it refers to the price relative to new modern lenses. It was indeed expensive then, but as I live in the present, I refer to its price now, but no disrespect to the quality or value of these. I couldn't afford it in the 90s either, so I get your point :).
