Thank you for the lyrics. This song is quite deep. The meaning can be elusive at first but when it finally clicks, it all begins to make sense. The song is about lack of confidence and self doubt, then finding that special someone (or something), that soothes away the inner doubts and looking to (and TRUSTING them) to bring clarity to those doubts.

Just saw Pentatonix perform in Irvine and they brought the house down. Second time seeing them live. This song in particular grabbed me and gave me all the feelings and goosebumps. Fan for life!

To me, it sounds like they are talking about depression, and having someone there when they are low.

Just saying - I've been eyes for people who can't see. Best experience of my life. There was one time a blind person was looking for the door to the bus. I took his elbow and directed him to the opening. He thanked me for the help. He never knew but I was always looking out for him, other than that one time when I touched him. Something else he did not know, for part of that time, I was in a wheel chair.

Watching new video last night with my hubby... Hubby-"I don't understand". Me-"It doesn't matter. It's gorgeous. That's all that matters. If I figure out the meaning I'll let you know." OK, can anyone explain what it means?!

To me it is a song about anxiety and self confidence ; "Little white horses on carousels and quicksand, am I one of you or one of them ?" could be an image, the carousel being the stability and clear path for the horses whereas the quicksand traps them making them unable to move just like anxiety does for some people. "TV dulls my senses and reactions I can’t seem to find my way again" obviously medias are the worst when it comes to self confidence, it shows things that seem perfect but impossible to reach which contributes to her being blind to her own worth and her own qualities. She gets lost into this kind of identity crisis. Other lyrics about anxiety : "when there’s so many inside voices calling where do I run right now", "I can get caught up on little things and missteps", "when I get lost I’m out of my mind, too in my head." I think when you lack confidence you have to have anxiety with it I think it just goes together so the rest of the lyrics are about both of these imo but they are uplifting "stranger that I call joy is who you are when I’m too far down", "you rebuild the ground beneath my feet", "you’re the camera to refocus me" the same person brings back joy, self confidence and stability into her life The little staccato opens the song on an unstable rythm and an infinite loop that traps us until the pre chorus "stranger that I call joy is..." which is the first uplifting lyric we hear and it frees us from the looping staccato. After that we have a melody that’s more fluid and flowing with "ooh" and "aah" until the very chorus that kinda mixes all of it bringing a balance between the unstable anxiety with the staccato and the uplifting clearance with the fluidity. Then on the second verse we’re back to just the staccato until the pre chorus where all the same things are happening again. Toward the bridge we can only hear Kirstie singing the main melody and Mitch doing adlibs in the backgroung which gives the song a more hopeful tone and which breaks the general form of the song which had trapped us from the beginning until there. The form of the song goes like this ; "verse 1, pre chorus, chorus, verse 2, pre chorus, chorus, bridge, coda" the bridge is hope and it frees us and brings back a sense of calmness within ourselves. There you go I hope you understand that’s only my opinion but I’m not really good to explain it without sounding too know-it-all especially since english isn’t my first language so I apologise for that but on the other hand I’m open to discussion and or if you have questions if you didn’t understand something I’ll be happy to answer so yeah what do you think ?

@@waterycandle2028 Wow! Thank you! It's been a couple of years since I made that comment, during which I have listened to this song a gazillion times & basically figured out the same meaning from it that you just shared! You said that very well - better than many American born citizens that I have come across! I really appreciate the time you took to make this comment. I hope Kirstie reads this someday!
