When this came out, Brian May posted it on his social media and said, “enjoy”. This is the same lineup as from the Sing Off. Clockwise from the back left corner: Kirstin (Kirstie)-messo soprano Mitch-Countertenor Scott-Baritone Kevin-Beatboxer/tenor/cellist Avi-bass Avi left in 2017 and Matt took over as bass. That has been the only member change in their eleven year history. Kirstie and Mitch change their appearance a lot but it is them. They have a two hundred plus song catalog of covers, mashups, medleys, and originals. They sing mostly pop and Christmas music, but can sing anything. Recommend their cover of The Prayer. Subscribed.

You are in for one helluva treat. These guys were doing stuff nobody else was doing 11 years ago, and they've spent all that time getting better. If you listen to something they've done in the past couple years, it's actually obvious how much better they are, which sound insane, but they are that absurd.

The opera section(s) got a lot of strength from Avi Kaplan's part as bass, as he was an opera/classical voice major (basso profundo, in fact) in college in Southern California, and had been offered a position with the Los Angeles Opera at the same time he was approached to join Pentatonix for The Sing Off. He left the group in 2017 for personal reasons (including his mother's cancer) and went on to establish a brilliant solo career. (For an example of what he ended up doing, his original song "Change on the Rise" from 2019 is a good starting point. After that, he has an extensive catalog of original music, wide-ranging in styles to choose from.)

@@MelloReacts Avi leaving was the ONLY change to the line up since the get go of the Sing Off. Any song pre 1017 was Avi, 2018 on it's Matt who is a different singer but equally as good. Note that Mitch and Kirstie change their looks on almost every video, but it is always them. They sound as good, if not better, live compared to the official video. With only one exception, they do not use effects beyond reverb. Proof of that is Daft Punk - do that as a double reaction. Official video followed by the "Private Performance" where they literally stand at the front of a room and sing. Captured on a mobile device!!

The pan from the left and right ear during that section duplicates what Queen did on their album. Brian May, the lead guitar for Queen, obtained his Doctorate Degree in Astrophysics. Dr. May was an astronomer, hence, Pentatonix showed stars in the night sky when Mitch played (sang) the guitar solo that Brian May did on the original. The 4 shooting stars were to acknowledge the 4 members of Queen. Brian May has a link on his FaceBook page to this video with the word "Enjoy!"

My faves all seem to be ones that bring a tear to the eye...The Prayer, Amazing Grace, and Thank you (an original song) come to mind with The Prayer being my absolute all time fave. To be honest, you'll be blown away by anything you watch. I never watched Sing Off and just happened to stumble on them back in 2014 or so when I watched Royals from Lorde here on YT and then Pentatonix's version was suggested. I thought, what the heck, watched it and have been amazed ever since. Been fortunate to see them in concert 3x as well.

The "girl" (I'm not sure how old she was when this was filmed, but she's 30 now) is Kirstin (AKA Kirstie - rhymes with thirsty) Maldonado, and she's been in Pentatonix from the beginning. People are sometimes confused by her frequent changes of hair color. Kirstie gave birth to her first child, Elliana Violet, or Evie, on June 28th of this year (2022). Mother and daughter are both doing well. That gorgeous bass is coming from Avi Kaplan, whose lowest notes have been known to blow out speakers during live performances. Avi is the *only* person to have left Pentatonix, in 2017, due to illness in his family. He remains friends with Pentatonix and helped them find their current bass, Matt Sallee. Avi is a lyric bass, which means that his range extends into the baritone range. He has gone on to have a very successful solo career; you should probably check out his KZbin channel. Please note that the megaphone isn't turned on; it's just a prop. Mitch was doing those guitar solos with just his voice. Kevin Olusola, the beatboxer, is *incredibly* good at what he does - some of us think he eats drum sets for breakfast. He's also a lyric baritone (his voice extends into both the bass and tenor ranges), with a gorgeous voice. Pentatonix doesn't do covers; they do upgrades. They *always* treat the songs they cover with utmost respect; anything they add to the song only serves to deepen its meaning, to make it more itself. The best example of this is their -cover- upgrade of _Imagine,_ by John Lennon. _Imagine_ was already perfect, right? But Pentatonix found a way to deepen its message, as even John couldn't have done. I'm old enough to remember the shock when John was murdered; I still grieve for him, more than 40 years later. I wish so much that he were able to see what Pentatonix did with his iconic song. He would be proud.

PTX wanted to stay true to the original recording so they followed the same sound engineering that was used by Queen. Queen recorded and used the 24 tracks which nearly broke the tape back then. The panning from ear to ear was one of their signature moves, as welll. Also, in paying tribute to Queen, the four shooting stars screen is for each of the original members of Queen and a nod to Brian May, who has PhD in Astrophysics.

I'm just like you because I was a sing off Stan! I watched every season from the first episode. But ptx is the only group that captured my heart. However I didn't follow their career and it's a slight regret. As of Jan 2021 I took a DEEP DIVE into the group and I'm never turning back. This whole group is PERFECTION. I just had the honor of seeing them live headlining for the first time at the Hollywood bowl and it was pure magic ✨. Their career is phenomenal. I subbed to watch your journey because your reaction was a mirror image to mine 😂. Please keep going 🙏🏾. Also be careful because PTX is Big Business and their videos get blocked a lot. Top row: Kirstin, Mitch, and Scott. Then, Kevin (the beatboxer) and Avi. All the same players from the Sing Off, just 5 years later. They have since change one member. Avi, the low bass, left in 2017 and was replaced by Matt Salle. If this is the first video of theirs you've watched since the Sing Off, you've only got about 250 more to go. React to Pentatonix, and the Pentaholics will come and subscribe. A few recommendations: Halelujah (nearly 700 MILLION views); Imagine (John Lennon cover); their three grammy wins: Daft Punk, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, and Jolene (duet with Dolly Parton). Their newer stuff: Amazing Grace, The Prayer. 90s Dance Medley. AND, of course, their Evolution of Michael Jackson.

Great reaction. The thing is, it takes but two chords to highlight the incredible talents at work her. Those two are the penultimate chord and then the final resolve. Miych is holding the lead note. Scott, Kirsten, and Kevin hit the new noted, immediately followed by Avi. As soon as Avi lands, Mitch raises hie note by an imperceptible 64th of a tone to warm the chord. They do it without evrn tbinking about. Supreme musicianshio.

The Grassi Guitar does not require a megaphone. It is just a prop to draw attention to who is making the sound. I heard it done live and it was EPIC. This is the best cover of this song and there are no instruments. The only way they could have done it better is if Mitch had the Freddie mustache.
