Later in the series Ben Folds makes a comment to the effect of “I’m not sure they can still surprise us. Kevin said that Avi had the unique ability, not only to hear the music and chords, but the ability to hear silence. He was the drive behind the total silence breaks, no background notes connecting parts. They have perfected the stopping of their notes, and coming back in together. So hard, so effective!

"Born To Be Wild" was part of the soundtrack for the 1969 hit movie "Easy Rider" with Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper. It's a classic biker song, and PTX totally nailed it with the Harley sound effects at the beginning. I respect how this group really does their research for every song, giving a nuanced and layered performance every time. They even relate to us oldies, pulling in references that take us back to being 17 again! Love, love love this performance. Thanks for sharing another great reaction with us!

This is one of the earliest performances where they show what they can do with pauses and silence. It's still one of their signature "effects." The timing with the light flash (not sure if it was an actual flash-pot) was amazing. Kirstin was a trooper during the actual performance, but I agree with a commented on an earlier reaction to this: when the judges were holding forth, she really looked like she wanted to just go lie down.

This one is one of the three most iconic songs they do during the Sing Off, IMO. This is one all we Pentaholics point to as "the best" performances of the entire series, and you can see why that is. You're right not to call performances like this one, especially, a cover, they aren't. Not really. I would say that they are upgrades, or updates for a new generation. Taking a classic song and bringing it to younger audiences in a way that keeps the feel, the flavor, of the original but in a way that makes it feel like something from current times. As for what's next after the Sing Off journey...Let's try Starships, shall we? I think that was the first video they put out after the Sing Off show ended. Let's keep the early stuff going!! Your reaction to this performance was great. Not quite the "mind blown" experience I had, but that might be because I grew up with the original song and know exactly how different, but similar, it sounds. Once you're done with PTX on the Sing Off, please do Home Free, season 4 (season after PTX) on the Sing Off. It's a shorter season for some reason, but they are fire!

Actually, PTX season was longer than all other Sing Off Seasons, and had most a capella groups(16). Season 1 had 4 episodes, season 2 had 5, season 3 had 11 , season 4 had 7 and season 5 was only an 2 hour special.
