$400, and they shot it in a closet with a ring light. When you notice the autotune effect they can do, and they do it much better now than back then, when this was shot, the effect is primarily Mitch and Scott, who know how to sing harmonics that resonate between the two of them. So when they nail it, it sound just like autotuning. It's an incredible effect that I haven't heard anyone else do.

I get such a thrill watching NEW people react to the GREATEST A ACAPELLA GROUP in the WORLD!!!😄😄😄 The Trio Scott, Kirstie and Mitch are childhood friends from the state of Texas, they grew up doing musical theater and choir. Avi is from California and was introduced to Scott when Scott moved to California to attend college. Kevin is from Kentucky and was attending YALE University having just graduated Pre-Med but he had posted a video of him playing, the cello while beatboxing (cello-boxing). Scott was shown this video and contacted Kevin, helped pay for a plane ticket to California to have Kevin join the Trio and Avi to audition to the televised A capella singing competition The Sing Off. This was in 2011... PENTATONIX just celebrated their 10 year anniversary as a group on the 5th of June...

The best live performance from Pentatonix is “Aha! Live - Singapore The Star Vista”, also known as the “where is Kevin” video. Kevin is putting his cello away in the beginning of the video. Kirstin stands out as the only girl but if you pay attention she is the one singing the hardest harmonies and can switch back and forth between harmony and "All around the World" while Avi is singing his very low Television part. She leads the key changes in other songs because her pitch is so perfect. Mitch and Kirstin can blend their voices so well that Mitch says they sound like one person. She has a very small solo here but I like to listen to a song at least five or six times so I can isolate everyone's part. Every one of them is amazing.

Thanks for your great reactions. Some of your comments remind me of my thoughts when I first heard PTX. I wondered how they did all the sounds. Then over time I saw videos of behind the scene of their process of creating these masterpieces. It takes a lot of hard work. The arrangement is the key to a Capella. Each person is responsible for their part, but they have to be completely in synch with the other members or the whole thing falls apart. The real secret of good a Capella is TRUST. The members have to know that they will be there with each other in perfect harmony for each performance. Vocal coaches and Choir Masters bring this point up again and again. PTX is lucky in that the core singers (the Trio) Scott, Mitch and Kirstie have known and sung with each other since childhood. (8 to 10 years old). Their bond is their secret. Finding Kevin (Beat Boxer) and Avi (Bass) completed the magic that is Pentatonix. They take risks and have brought a Capella music out of the Middle Ages. Daft Punk was an experiment to see if they could mimic modern Techno instruments. They proved to themselves and the World that they could. (Thank you Mitch). Hope you continue on the PTX journey. They will continue to amaze.

Mitch and Kirstie are chameleons with their appearances over the years. Avi was trained as an operatic Basso Profundo; his replacement, Matt Sallee, has a delightful voice but does not have quite that amazing lowest end. They were such kids at this point, about 22 years old for the Trio (Scott, Kirstin, and Mitch) and only a year or two older for the other two, that comparing them with their appearances in the 90s Dance Medley is a bit startling. Another good live performance is the Christmas Special version of Hallelujah - they have mics, but no after-processing.

Pentatonix does not have a "band leader", as they consider themselves a five-person partnership. Scott, Mitch & Kirstie have known each other since they were children and performed together in local youth musical theater in Arlington, Texas. They ended up attending the same high school and formed an a cappella group together called The Trio. That group was the basis for what became Pentatonix in June of 2011 (so the full group just celebrated their tenth anniversary). It's kind of funny how you mentioned that you overlooked Kirstie in your reaction. She was overlooked quite frequently in the early years, largely due to the fact that she was terribly shy and had low self-confidence (the reason for that is too complicated to go into now). After the release of her successful solo album in 2017 and after a highly acclaimed stint on Broadway in 2018, she emerged GLEAMING with self-confidence and has now moved into a much more visible role in the group as a true leader.

Scott came up with the name PENTATONIX (in reference to the 5 part harmony pentatonic scale) there is a "LOT" more that would paint Scott as the "unofficial" leader. At some point, you should react to Avi Kaplan's ( the bass here) solo work. A good one to start with is his most successful video so far, his original "Change on the Rise", released in March 2019, wherein he sings all the parts and sounds except for a bit of organ and tambourine in the bridge. His catalog ranges across genres and styles, and about 90% of what he does are originals.
@BritPopsReact
@BritPopsReact 3 жыл бұрын
@Charlotte Van How very interesting, you are the first to mention that Avi is still creating solo music. We will look to find some to react to soon. Thank you for watching.
@charlottevan_8
@charlottevan_8 3 жыл бұрын
@@BritPopsReact "Change on the Rise" is indeed a good starting point. It shows the power in his voice that he never had a chance to really display in PTX (btw, in "Change" he sings all the parts and sounds, with just a bit of organ and tambourine in the bridge). The songs PTX had him solo in were chosen because they required an emotional delivery, with a tone that could evoke the feeling of the songs. But as a solo artist and composer/arranger, he's created a wide-ranging catalog of varying genres and styes, from his fun cover of "Hey Ya!" (recorded before he left PTX, under the name Avriel & The Sequoias), to reflective songs like "Quarter Past Four" and "Otherside", and bass-heavy ones like "Chains" and "The Summit", just to name a few. He's also a master of layering in his music, both with vocals and instruments (he isn't doing a cappella, and happens to play a mean guitar). My favorite example of this layering mastery is in "Get Down", which is audio only, no music video. If you don't react to it, certainly do listen to it. Listen for how the layering increases as the song progresses. Here's the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qXvTfo2KfpWjnrs

Hi guys, I feel I waited so long for you to do this next Pentatonix video. If you wanted a live performance in front of a live audience, then hallelujah will show you each of the bands incredible voices. The daft punk live is just the band without microphones so difficult to hear and it’s not fair to judge them unless you show a truly live performance. They have done a live Star Wars medley at a huge award show (they were introduced by Harrison Ford). Their bohemian Rhapsody video was give a call out on twitch by Brian May, what an endorsement. I hope you do another PTX video soon. Great reaction (although I would have given DP a 10, but I’m biased when I come to PTX) Thank you so much for sharing this video xxx

Also if you guys want to seriously jump down the PTX rabbit-hole, you can actually start with their first ever live performance as a group! The entire season of the Sing Off that they won in 2011 is on KZbin, and yes the first episode is their first performance ever as a group, they formed it quickly (sort of) to participate. Anyway watching the entire season song by song has been popular for reactors in the past and really is the starting point of their career. So if you’re planning on covering their catalog you might as well start there 😉
