It was originally a poem that was made into a song for Thanksgiving, but over the years it's become known as more of a Christmas song (like "My Favorite Things" from The Sound of Music), mostly because "Christmas" is in the lyrics.

Over the River and Through the Woods is an old poem (about 100 years old) and was originally written describing a visit to Grama's house through the snow on a sleigh. The word "Christmas" is in the lyrics. I saw this on stage. Lindsay played it virtually with them and Kevin played his cello with her. EPIC! Thank you for your reaction. It was great to see how it tickled you.

I’ve been singing this song for the last 50 years as I’ve gone to Grandma’s house for Thanksgiving or Christmas because there’s always an “over the river” and “through the woods” along the way. I just didn’t know ALL of the lyrics.
