But PTX now has a spot on the Hollywood hall of fame. First Grammy first star from an a cappella group. The best in the world.

👏👑Yes PENTATONIX is the GREATEST A Capella group EVER! Their world wide recognition, accomplishments awards ect.. And they are the SWEETEST, HUMBLE people ... So YES! And they are younger than the other groups mentioned so they have more in store for us! WHAT GIFT they are!💖

Avi is the one that stands out the most to me. Most people don't pay attention to the background, just the vocals. You hear his bass very clearly in this! This is why when he started doing his solo stuff people were surprised that he could sing. He is a phenomenal bass, but his vocals is so much more.
@marcgarrett44012 жыл бұрын
I can't fault you for thinking PTX is a cut above. Three Grammys, among other awards, and the recently announced Hollywood Star set them apart from other a capella groups.
@susanbeckmolloy95362 жыл бұрын
Sometimes the background vocals don't get that much attention, but they're just as important 'cuz that's what makes the sound so full. Avi was my hero in this. His bass is just so sick. AND Kevin was killing it. Scott's voice was so gritty and dirty in this. Kirstin and Mitch sounded great as usual. I'd have to say those two have grown the most since Sing Off IMO. Love the dancing Thx Eddie 😎

Pentatonix was Scott's brainchild and never would have happened if not for him. It was his idea to compete in the Sing Off. He was the one who called Kirstie and Mitch to get them onboard. Ben Bram convinced Scott that they needed a bass and beatboxer. Ben helped them get Avi signed up, and when Scott saw Kevin's celloboxing video, he decided to go for it and called him to join the group. He and Ben Bram paid for Kevin's airplane ticket to get him to LA for the Sing Off audition. Because of this, it was only natural that in the beginning, Scott took the lead more often than not, he was typically the one to whom questions were directed when they did press events or Sing Off background bits, and by virtue of his leadership qualities and height, was usually placed in the middle of the group for performances and photos. HOWEVER, as time has gone by, the other members of the group have stepped up and taken more ownership in the group dynamics and presentation. I think it just took awhile for them all to come into their own. While they were developing as a group and individually as artists and human beings, Scott being the "leader" was a natural and logical thing. Things seem to be far more equitable these days, and it doesn't appear that Scott has pushed back on that at all.
@couchpotatoe5112 жыл бұрын
Yeah I agree with you and it also made much sense that he often took the lead in the beginning because the base and beatboxer are together and Kirstie and Mitch blend so well that they can make the perfect background and feel for the song so naturally Scott often was the odd one out and took the lead. As they progressed as a group I think they learned how to switch it up better and as you said everyone became more confident and comfortable with themselves.
@lexymich222 жыл бұрын
It was actually Ben Brams idea. Ed Boyer who mixes their music to this day was already on the sing off and brought Ben on board to arrange. He did tell Scott. And the rest is history

@@lexymich22 I've always thought it was Ben Bram's influence that drove their "cool" vibe. They were always SO different, and I figured Ben at least had something to do with that.

The record company dropped them not long after they won. It still baffles me that they did additional seasons of The Sing Off after that happened. If I’m a contestant in the next season why would I think any outcome wouldn’t be the same as what happened to PTX. 🤷♀️

Thank you for this reaction to one of Pentatonix’s best performances at the Singoff. They have all come a long way since then, just getting better and better. I’m especially in awe of what Avi is doing now and as I know that you have reacted to some of his solo music before, I thought that you might like to check out his new album, “Floating On A Dream”, for instance the track “I’m Only Getting Started” that has a very cool video.

Kirstie was often omitted from comments and praise in the early days. It was very frustrating for her, I'm guessing. She was always fantastic, but she was the lone female amidst four male singers whose voices or talents were quite unusual compared with typical bands that use instruments. In my opinion, she has shown the most professional/vocal growth of all of them, which is why she is now featured so much more prominently than in the early days. I often cringe when I see these old Sing Off judge comments, because while they never criticized her, they often forgot to even mention her in any meaningful way.
@hernameispekka_Rebecca2 жыл бұрын
I wonder how much was editing, and not the judges though. We know from the odd "flashback" to harsh comments that were not in the aired episode for the 2nd performance that the judges say things that they didn't air. So my hope is that the judges actual comments were more balanced than what the editors and producers thought was good tv.
@mmg88232 жыл бұрын
yeah, the judges short changed her throughout the season. I agree that she has shown the most professional/vocal growth over the years. I suspect that is partly because, being raised by a single mom, she didn't have as many voice lessons as a kid as the others did.
@melissacoviello28862 жыл бұрын
I think to be fair she wasn’t comfortable with attention and tended to try to blend into the background. Since she was on Broadway her confidence and ability to show off her amazing talent has skyrocketed. She’s phenomenal.

this is my absolute favorite PTX sing-off performance, though the 10th performance is a very close second. Eddie you gotta watch the sing-off videos to the very end for some short but very interesting interviews from crew about the performance they just did. I know you'd enjoy it. also, you could say that Scott is the heart and soul of PTX, not necessarily the front man or lead singer. after all, if it weren't for Scott I don't think there would be a PTX. it was his idea for them to audition for The Sing-Off in the first place and he's been the one driving them all these years due to his passion and natural leadership skills. anyway, I hope you do the entire sing-off journey (all 12 songs) because it's amazing to see where they've come from and watch them grow and mature. ❤️

The producers wanted a lead singer, and I'm sure the decision to make it be Scott was a no-brainer. All three members of the trio were still building confidence, but especially Kirstin and Mitch. They were all just babies! In fact, Mitch skipped his high school graduation to be on the show. It took Mitch a while to feel confident enough to sing in his full range because he had been teased so much. When Mitch and Scott watched clips of the Sing-Off on Superfruit, they laughingly called this period "masc-Mitch" (masculine Mitch), where he sings in his lower register. The producers were also anxious to avoid any sign of gay-ness. Even the episode that showed them volunteering at the Treavor Foundation did not mention the word "gay." By the final performances, you'll start to see glimpses of the Mitch and Kirstin we know today.

The very next performance is the Britney Spears medley and Kirstin comes out swinging and all the judges gives her the compliments she deserves! Also to mimic Shawn I do agree that PTX has saved a capella music. There's some great a capella groups out there but I believe that Pentatonix really set a foundation for these groups to be great.

I personally love ptx but not a fan of the whole sing off series. The reason being, that firstly they were pushed into this whole Scott being lead singer thing (cause of nature of a capella), also those outfits😅 who was the stylist. Secondly I felt really really bad for Mitch and Kirstie during the whole show. They literally got overlooked for most of it. Mitch got a mention in this one and if I remember correctly on a couple of others. Other then that for about 10 songs he wasn't even mention once, although he does all the background harmonies and some effects. Without him there would not be that full sound. Same goes for Kirstie. First half of the competiton she was not payed attention to eventhough she was always real force in the background with Mitch. She had a couple of leads later on and than she started to be noticed. But if I was Mitch and Kirstie and every damn song the judges go on about how amazing Avi and Kev were( which they were of course) for minutes and about Scotts unbelievable lead.... have the curtesy to acknowledge the rest. Like say something nice and mention them. I feel like I would be so anxious and sad if I wasn't even noticed. It would make my anxiety sky rocket. I find that a little sad. Also knowing that Mitch actually did have pretty bad anxiety during that time, I can't help but feel for him. Just want to give him a hug and tell him he will be more than ok in ghe future🥲
